    All you modders out there....

So I keep an excel spreadsheet for the $$ I have spent on my truck YTD. This includes the price I paid and the mods I have done. Mods included everything from TRD pro grille to spyder lights, suspension, wheels and tires, sound system, rigid lights, Husky floor mats, leather seat covers etc etc. I will be adding a supercharger with 4:88 gears and auburn LSD next month.

After the above mods, I will be hitting $40k (bought my 2014 used) which includes the purchase price. Sometimes I think (when the guilty conscience kicks in), will I able to recover it if I ever sell it? Or may be just keep it for a long time, at least it’s a Toyota that can be trusted.

Question for all you guys out there with heavy mods. Do you guys keep your modded truck for a long time? Were you able to recover any of your $$ with mods when u sold it. I normally have access to several cars so I don’t get BORED driving one and get rid of it after 1-2 years (mistake I made in the past on a depreciating asset repeatedly).

I don't think you'll recover much of the money you dumped in mods unless you find the perfect buyer that is looking exactly for what you did to your truck.
I will keep my truck for a long time just to have time to play with all those mods I spent money on :)

Cars in general are a bad investment but they are so fun :)

I don't have a spreadsheet for my modification cost but I know it's a lot. I don't know if I would want to know the exact number. I'm not sure if I'll keep my truck long term.

You need to post some pics of your SC after it's all done. :mudding:

Just pull all the high dollar mods and sell them separate if/when you sell/trade.

Could probably buy a whole new truck with that cash.

That's what I was thinking. That and, I don't really want to know how much I spend on the truck.
If you remove the parts you can usually recoup about half the initial cost.

So I started doing this when i built my 67 camaro. I gave up pretty quickly as the cost to build is at least 2x the cost to buy it ready built and i realized i didn't want to know how much cash i was losing. The truck would be similar I think, esp the supercharger.

I think this summer is the year that i'll say goodbye to the camaro and a large amount of the cash it cost me to build. I know i'll get more for it if i part it out as you would for your truck but a) it's a pain in the ass - b) I kinda want someone else to enjoy what i built (I think)

Fwiw though, I'm not particularly upset about the money since I've learned so much about cars and working on them and I thoroughly enjoyed most of the blood, sweat and tears. That money would have been wasted on something else anyway

Seriously, I could have bought two Platinum Tundras for what I will have in to this one by the time I am done. Its just stupid, but I'm a car guy that loves his toys. I waste stupid amounts of money just to put a smile on my face.

well if your username is anything to go by - your scale of "stupid amounts of money" could be very different than the vast majority of us here.... congrats though - that's a rare breed right there

I plan to keep my truck at least 10 years and don't plan to recover any mod costs. Realistically I'll probably be in another 15k on top of the truck including a supercharger, so overall my plans are very mild compared to some on here

Sorry guys, was 70 hour week so I couldn’t reply.

So I deleted my spreadsheet, I don’t/shouldn’t record anymore. At the same time, just got 4:88 gears and Auburn LSD delivered yesterday. It will be going in next week.

Winter is ending and the mods are starting again. SC will be going in soon and then all other mods ending w the pressure Horn....

This is the truck that I will be keeping for a long time.....
