Fact or Fiction 5.7FFV

I know there is someone here that can clear this up for me.

If I want a 5.7 in a 2016 CM 4x4, the only version available is the FFV.

Reason I ask is conflicting information on the build page on Toyota.com and information I obtained speaking with a sales type at Toyota of Dallas. Maybe it's a GST thing. The note on Toyota.com info page reads as such. Feel free to comment on your experience with the 5.7FFV.

Can you get a S/C on an FFV engine?

 

You can, but it will void the warranty. The TRD is discontinued, and it doesn't work on the 2016, so you will need to use the Magnuson kit which will void the warranty anyways.

 

I figured as much about the warranty. My question was more the TRD supercharger(assuming I can get it from eBay) and the FFV engine

 

I wouldn't get one personally. Not until there is an actual confirmed tune written for our trucks. The uni chip is hit or miss with people's trucks. Just my opinion.

I searched inventory in Denver and Phoenix/Glendale and those appear to be FFV as well. After doing some research here, it sounds like if you run 91 or above octane in the FFV and never switch, there are no issues. I don't think this issue is going to sway my decision to upgrade to a Tundra.

 

I run only 87 in mine. But I don't have a blower. If you get one and don't add the blower, there isn't any need to run 91. Maybe that was an obvious statement, but just in case.

Cool. All feedback is appreciated. I am feeling a lot less apprehensive about the whole FFV thing. Can't wait to get into the Tundra.

Of course, I would like to be able to add a SC like many others. Will cross that bridge way down the road and just enjoy the increased torque/power/towing vs. my Tacoma.

 

If you are able to find one that isn't an ffv, that would be best case. I had trouble with my ffv but TOYOTA finally got the programming right. Now i feel like I could drive this truck for many years to come.

 

I've got a 2015 FFV Tundra and it's supercharged. Running a Unichip on it. Sparks Toyota did the install and I've had no issues for 15,000 miles. Run the stock air box with the supercharger and it will be fine.
