Hey tundras. I am getting pretty interested in using Raptor liner to spray my whole truck. Makes good sense for my beat up ten year old paint. I plan on bush beating this thing so I won’t get more pinstripes from trees and rocks. Plus it’s about a quarter of the price to dyi then paint. I could see a couple tundras on google images. I’m curious if anyone here has done this to their truck? I would like to see a few more pics? Any tips? Incase anyone cares I would be tinting it grey also.

Sorry I don't have a pic, but I have seen it done and it looks good. Best color is gray because, even if you add the UV protectant, it will eventually fade to gray.

Also, it's heavy. Like, might make a difference to mpg heavy. But still cool and someday I plan to do parts of mine. Many pinstripes and payments from now.

Thanks. I feel like actual shop done bed liner would be for sure. The raptor liner is a 12 liter kit that weighs 8 pounds wet (shipping weight with all the packaging and a shultz gun) how would it get heavier after drying?

It would not. 8 pounds is nothing compared to other mods you might do. Go for it!

I was on a run with a 4runner that was done in Raptor liner. Looked nice and he said has held up good. Only issue is if you change colors then you have to deal with door jams and engine bay being off color or you have to prep and spray those also. I want to do mine White and then I don't have to mess with that issue. But still trying to decide how to add some graphics or something to give it some character.

Nice thanks! That’s the majority of the reason I want to do grey since my truck is silver it won’t be too contrasted. They sell a silver color tint also but I don’t like the metallic looking bed liner quite as much. I feel like metallic cookies should be smooth over steel. Not rubbery. But that my own weird mind haha

I'd double check that weight. A gallon if water weighs 8 lbs. 12 liters is over 3 gallins, I can't imagine that stuff is less than 1/3 the weight of water.

I do agree that the weight isn't a big deal though. I'd be more unsure about the prep work needed. You'll have to sand the whole truck and make sure everything is perfect in order to get it to stick right and look good. If you have body work experience this won't be nearly as daunting as it would be for me.

I wanted to do my bumpers and grille in Line-X and the dealer told me not to do white because it ends up yellowy and dirty looking over time.

I sprayed my grille and rockers about 5 years ago and they are still white. I didn't do Line-x but did a DIY kit, still good and I live in the desert with the truck sitting outside all day at work in the sun.

Fair enough on the weight topic. I’ll double check on that. Prep doesn’t seem major at all according to their website. Just 180 grit the surface and etch primer any bare metal. Spray right over paint. Seems too good to be true :notsure:

Awesome. May have too look into that, then. My grille surround is chipped and my bulge is currently just plastidipped

34 pounds for the whole kit. I got 8 pounds from a smaller kit. Still tho 34 pounds doesn’t seem bad at all

The prep work does seen too good to be true but if that's what they call for I'm sure it fine. Be sure to get it very clean and dust free. Lots of tack clothes and wipe it all down really well. Making some kind of plastic tent around the truck with a fan to pull fumes may be a good idea too. I'd also try to get a color / colour? lol sorry had to, as close as possible to the color of your truck

34 pounds isn't anything to worry about. The AT tires that everyone goes to adds more than that.

    How much does it cost?

You bet haha I don’t even know how to spell color up here ;). I have somewhat of a plastic tent area setup in my shop already because I’m redoing a horse trailer inlcuding paint. So I’ll be all over that. I think using a degreaser after the prep work is the right way to go as well...

Exactly my thoughts on weight. Cost is unreal cheap. It will cost me $400 Canadian shipped to my door from Amazon. So that’s like $30 Usd haha. Plus a few bucks for prep materials (sand paper, tape, masking paper etc). It all just seems too good to be true haha.

All they do at the bedliner places is scuff it up real good. So you should be good there. I wonder how quickly the masking tape needs to be removed before it’s permanent. I wonder if doing it in stages would be smarter. Like spraying the driver side of the truck masking off the hood and roof. Then the hood and roof, then the passenger side.
Maybe I should be asking what is the flash time?

Those are good thoughts. It says it’s tacky after an hour. I watched a yt vid on a guy who did it. Even if the tape is left on or there is overspray he said you can use a razor blade and just cut it off since it’s rubbery...

They say the flash time is 60 minutes.
I watched a few videos and read up on the raptor liner. The prep doesn't seem too bad now that I actually looked into it. I'd consider it for the bed of my truck if I ever get an itch to line it.

If you have a buffer there’s a nylon bristle brush you can buy that you put on your buffer to scuff the paint. I use one and it cuts the sanding time in half! I usually wait 15 minutes before I pull the tape off that way it’s still kinda tacky and somewhat “falls” back into place.

I just scuffed mine with a 3m Scotch brite type pad when I did my grille and rockers. Not the ones you get for the kitchen but the ones you get in the paint section. Has held up for 5yrs so far without peeling or any issues.
