With the Entune app on my phone I gained a few more apps in the truck menu, but I see nothing related to Gracenote. You are correct :)

fun fact, if you like listening to pandora, and aren't a subscriber, running pandora through your head unit eliminates the ads (which requires phone to be bluetooth tethered and entune running).

Unfortunately, if you're a subscriber, you don't get all the additional benefits (like picking specific songs and playlists) so you end up having to run it on your phone and using bluetooth for the sound.

Hi Jadoti, I have been going through this same struggle with Toyota regarding the Gracenote Database Update. While it's not crucial to the workings of my vehicle, you are absolutely right in saying that's it's terrible for Toyota to sell this feature to us and not support it. Have you gotten an answer yet? I'm curious if you or anyone else has received a solution.

Hey Simplicity, unfortunately no, I've gotten nowhere. Local dealer can't find anything, and people at toyota corporate just make me want to tele-choke them thru the phone. It's actually gotten worse over the past 4 months or so, in now that it doesn't really even display the track information either depending on some yet-to-be-figured-out sequence of events leading up to the bluetooth connecting. Will play the music, just won't show me any track information until I shut down the truck and restart.

Anyway, good luck if you're looking. Let us know if you find anything new :)

Hi Jadoti, thanks for the quick response. You responded quicker than Toyota did. Lol. Unfortunately this is the response I received:

    "
Thank you for your interest in Gracenote for your 2016 Toyota.

We are sorry, there are no updates or planned updates available for Gracenote.

We apologize for this situation and for any inconvenience it may have caused.

Your email has been documented at our National Headquarters. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

    Sincerely,

    Roy G.
    Toyota Customer Experience Center"

I guess for now, we are SOL. Hopefully you find a solution to your problem. I think at the very least they should troubleshoot your problem. It should not get worse , but it sounds like it is for you. If I find out other information, I'll let you know. For now, my advice is to have the dealer update your Entune software since there was one recently. Hopefully that will fix the worsening problem you have encountered.

Any success using the Mazda .up file you linked in your post?

Tried this on my 2014 4Runner without NAV but the update did not recognize the ".up" file.

Just checking if there are any updates on this. I just got a 2015 Highlander last week and have been searching for any sort of GraceNote update.

I tried the Mazda download on a flash drive, but the Highlander didn't see it and the update button was just greyed out.

There was a short reddit thread on GraceNote about trying to find an update and multiple people said head to the dealer. So I went to them and they said since it is over 3 years old and they won't update it 'for free' and I could pay $75 for the update. Which is ridiculous just to plug in a flash drive and hit update. I would really love to get the file and just share it with the world.

I read somewhere else that a new map update will also update the GraceNote database.... that is definitely not the case.

If anyone has any news, I'm all ears.

Pretty sure I tried this. I will try again though. I think I tried the Fiat, Subaru, Mitsubishi Motors, Volvo, and I think one more, all without any luck. I'm fairly certain it needs to be from Toyota.

You're right - I tried it and it didn't work.
