RXT Rear Suspension Systems

The 2007-2017 Toyota Tundra is a very capable and versatile truck with features that make it suitable for use as everything from daily driver, to tow rig, to adventure vehicle and everything in between. From the brutal deserts of the Southwest to the wooded trails of the East coast ICON suspension systems have been put to the test and performed flawlessly for this popular Toyota. Over the span of hundreds of hours in the shop and over a thousand miles in the dirt, ICON Vehicle Dynamics’ engineers have pushed this vehicle to extremes in order to develop the most sophisticated suspension components on the market. Unable to leave “well-enough” alone, ICON is aiming to raise the bar in Tundra performance with the introduction of the RXT Rear Suspension System.

Through an accelerated testing process dubbed the “ICON1K” R&D program, ICON has spent over a year pushing the Tundra to off-road extremes to identify limiting factors in OE components and further extrapolate performance out of this vehicle. In a push to provide unparalleled ride quality and vehicle dynamics for everything from high-speed desert running to off the grid expedition, the RXT Rear Suspension System was born. The RXT Rear Suspension System is a combination of an all new ICON multi-rate leaf spring, a hydraulic rear bump stop kit, and three RXT-specific 2.5 Series rear shock options. Installation of this system replaces the aforementioned “limiting factors” and completely redefines the potential of the 2007-2017 Toyota Tundra with a 20% increase in wheel travel and the ability to adjust the leaf spring rate to compensate for varying vehicle setups.



ICON RXT Multi-Rate Leaf Spring

The backbone of the Tundra RXT Rear Suspension System is a user-adjustable multi-rate leaf pack that offers a major performance gain for almost every accessory & gear setup imaginable. Features like tip inserts and leaf separators reduce friction and increase ride comfort, while a military wrapped front eyelet improves the durability and strength of the leaf spring. To increase the ride quality of the truck and gain additional droop travel, the spring rate has been lowered slightly. While many Tundra owners will embrace this, there are those who have outfitted their trucks with a significant amount of weight in the form of a bed rack, roof top tent, spare tires, parts, or other additions. Taking this into consideration, the leaf pack was designed with an additional leaf (included with kit) that can be exchanged or added to the pack yielding an additional 15% or 25% in spring rate that will handle more "outfitted" vehicles.

ICON RXT Rear Shocks

To compliment the RXT Multi-Rate Leaf Spring, three new ICON shock options have been developed to control the suspension throughout this new range of travel. These include a 2.5 Series remote reservoir shock, a 2.5 Series CDC Valve shock, and a two-tube Omega bypass option – each of which provides unique levels of performance to the rear end of the Tundra. The increase in wheel travel was answered with a unique side-mount eyelet approach that allowed ICON engineers to develop a shock that is shorter in collapsed length, longer at extension, and still fits in the factory mounting location. A large ten inch remote reservoir was added to aid in heat dissipation and resist shock fade during spirited driving.

there has been some discussion about leaf options for the tundras lately.i have read alot of talk about the leafs going flat or sagging. i know when i had my last f350 i had your 7" leafs and you guys had a no sag guarantee. is this something that passes over to these springs?
i know alot of people are interested in off road performance but i am very interested in how this set up is for on road comfort. my truck spends most of its time on the hwy or city streets. with two kids that travel with me all the time how is the ride comfort?

Where can I get some new center pins for the RXT packs?
will these fit?

 

will the rxt leaf packs reduce/eliminate double cab bed bounce?

I personally don't think anything completely eliminates really bad bed bounce. I think mine got reduced a bit with the Icons but that's with the rear bypasses and set all the way to soft. I think it's more the shocks than the leafs though.

 

The RXT Leaf Systems come with spare set of center pins. If you are sourcing additional pins they are standard, mas-manufactured pins. As long as the pin mentioned is long enough and the correct diameter it will work as a replacement.

I have a 2015 Toyota Tundra crewmax. Hey anyone else with a rxt leaf pack option 2 found that when driving off the line your truck has a slight vibration? I’m just trying to figure it out. It’s more annoying more than anything.

I just installed mine this weekend on option 2 and I have the same thing happening.

 

Doesn’t lifting the rear change pinion angle? Doesn’t matter if you do leaf spring lift, shackles or blocks.

 

I’ll call a local shop here and ask them, get back tomorrow hopefully with an answer

 

I just bought a set of RXTs, should be here any day now. Planning on option 2 to compensate for my habitat and gear, should get me back to stock or a little more. Won’t be able to get them installed for a couple weeks.

 

So I left a voicemail for my local shop but spoke with coachbuilder1 and about 5 hours of research, looks like the solution is a carrier drop kid that coachbuiler sells and it’s a freaking great deal. I ordered both just in case but I’m gonna install the 2” carrier drop kit first and see what happens. I also spoke with coach builder who is very resourceful. His number is ‭(801) 635-4872‬. Give him a call with questions

 

You and @Hartc90 might want to look into a Carrier Bearing drop kit. I hear this helps with the vibration you get from a stop to about 10 MPH.

Got my RXT leaf pack installed, this was exactly what i needed. Running option 2.

 

Just FYI you might wanna look at the abs and brake line relocation parts. Wheeler off road and coachbuilder sell it. I bought the wheeler off road one. It’s old man emu which is a good brand from what I understand.

Very nice! With that much weight in the back why did you not opt for the 750 load option #3?

 

Running about 350-400 lbs for the habitat plus gear. Icon recommend option 2 as well as the place I bought them through. It’s been spot on. I’ve got about 300 miles on it so far and zero complaints.

With my current load, the rear is still a bit higher than the front. Option 3 would have been too much. Changing the spring config is pretty easy so I can always add that in down the road if I add more weight.

 

We had it at full droop and there’s still some slack in the lines. I’m definitely going to keep an eye on it though as I’d much prefer to not break them.

 

Did you use the same centering pin for option 2 as option 1? I need to do this soon and don’t think I have the instructions.

 

Yes. I believe you only need the other pin for option 3.

What do you recommend for just running an RTT?

 

RTT plus bed rack would likely be pretty close to the same weight, I’d probably go option 2 (250-500 lbs over stock)
