What color were the 2 wires you tapped into on the back of the mirror harness? I have the mirror wire power cable and would like to do the install.

    Photos went missing :(

Edit: in your write-up it says "Black and brown wires" .........for hot and ground?

Glad it worked. I found the pictures. I uploaded them to another site before I realized I could just put them all here. Now I just need to put the up here.

Any luck on the pictures? I'd like them so I can visually follow along. If you can't host them, send them to me and I can help out.

Thanks for this great write up. I just installed my Max 360. I love not having exposed wires and the mirror mount is awesome.

I found over the years that taking the speeding ticket to court it will be discharged or reduced (if you have time). They have a have to fill a monthly quota and will do it with a speed trap at any time. They will not pull an officer off the street to fight one ticket when he can give out 20 other ones.

This is a great post and in most states it is not illegal to use them, in some states it is, however, having said that no Police Officer wants to see one that is visible from outside the vehicle. If you DO get pulled over. Theoretically there is only one reason to have one at all. I know of one instance that I received a ticket (you can not beat their radio) simply because I did not pull the detector from the dash and drop it on the floor. Mine is on the dash directly behind the state inspection sticker attached with suction cups so a quick yank off the dash and drop on the floor would have probably gotten me a warning instead of a 100.00 speeding ticket. just saying....

States (and Canadian Provence's) that prohibit radar-detectors have electronic devices (a radar-detector detector) that can sense the presence of a radar-detector when it is powered. Some law enforcement authorities in those jurisdictions have them active in their squad cars, built into their radar units. However, newer radar-detectors are better shielded to thwart detection. And the radar-detector detector does not have the capability of picking out a specific vehicle in heavier traffic.

Two comments and I apologize that I did not read all the threads, 1. Radar Detectors are illegal in some states. 2. Even if you are in a legal state, if you get pulled over by law enforcement and they see a detector it is almost always a ticket. Reason: The food for thought is that there is only one reason to have one, that is to exceed the speed limit. I have mine mounted on windshield, by the drivers window do I can immediately pull it off and drop it on the floor before law enforcement gets their eyes on it. Just my 2 cents

I agree with scharring100 ^^^^ I do this same thing by pulling my detector.... my power cable started to fray and has started to separate, so I don't use it as much anymore, but its got me out of a lot of trouble in so many occasions..... I've also pulled mine off the windshield in the vicinity of police presence as I already get enough attention from them as it is. At one point there was a CHP getting on the off ramp and used their spot light to point out my detector across the entire highway, yes, I was in the far left lane, passing other traffic. light, no it didn't hit my face, but was sure trained on the detector...

Radar detectors illegal here in VA. I have heard there is a detector detector.. unsure how that works.

The detector detector detects RF leakage from your RD. It is only effective against older and/or crappy detectors.
Most newer/better units are better shielded and can't be picked up by the RDD within any range that matters.

Like anything else, the radar detector is a tool and you have to know how it works, how to use it to make it work best for you. Also, you have to know what the cops in your area are using in order to maximize effectiveness.

Radar detectors, even if they purport to have the function, are mostly useless against laser, so if you are facing a bunch of laser, RD isn't going to do much good and you need a good laser detector/jammer if you are serious about countering laser. Look at the AL Priority systems; ~$2500 and non-trival install.

Thankfully laser is not used around me. Neither is K band (woohoo!!). I can turn of K on my detector and just roll around with Ka only, knowing that if it starts beeping, I better be on the brakes till I figure out where they are.
But if you are new to RD and don't know, you can reference online databases for your area to get an idea, but there is no substitute for driving around with everything turned on for 2-3 months to figure out what you are seeing that is legit, vs. (usually lots of) non-police K band out there now.

Unfortunately I don't think there is any power running to my mirror, so I'm going to probably try to figure out how to run a cable around the headliner... the power sockets are too far away from the mirror area for my factory cord, and it is ugly anyway.

Old thread, but I will add to it.

I too have/had many Escorts, Passport radar detectors. I mostly only use when traveling muti-states. To be quite honest, what I use daily and is much more convenient is the WAZE app. GPS, Road hazards, backed up traffic, POI, & Po-Po sighting.

Waze is great for laser since they have to be stationary... it is useless against radar from cars that are moving however.

Radar detector has saved my butt countless times. Detects cops hitting others cars far away. Even has picked up laser when they are hitting the cars in front of me.

I have my Escort hardwired with the camera, had something like it there for decades.

Until the Valentine directional arrow patent ended I had Valentine 1s, now I have an Escort W360. I like to know what is going on around me, last ticket I got was in a rental I did not have my detector, in '21. Before that it was a lane change nonsense ticket in 2013.

How does that cam compare to others? Here is how I recently mounted mine. The suction cup would not stick due to the heat. I didn't like finding my expensive radar detector in the floor.

I have never used the suction deal, I have it & the lighter power in the bag the detector came in for travel & have forgotten it every time.

The camera is good, I like it accepts large SD cards, the BT is hit or miss & kicks Apple play off when connected for direct viewing so I rarely use it. I like that it piggybacks off the Radar power.

We can’t have them in VA, so I use WAZE which is pretty good. Nice part is I know .4 miles before, so if the cop has a laser gun which a lot of our troopers do, it even works out better. Once they paint you with that gun, it’s game over
