Finally was able to grow up and retire my '98 XJ.. She's been my DD and weekend warrior for the past 5 years.







Now I have a solid & comfortable DD, plus something to tow the trail rig with.

Welcome to Tundras. Beautiful truck! One of my goals is to pick up an XJ to use as an off road rig. I would love to chose a 4runner but so much money can be saved by going with an XJ, plus I want to abuse it and not feel bad. How do you like the XJ?

 

@csuviper also the parts are harder to come by. One can find almost anything they need for an XJ on Craigslist for cheap, or often at a junknyard. 4Runner or Tacoma parts, not so much.

 

thanks! in my honest opinion xjs are the best offroading vehicle out there for budgets. they can be found in any junkyard and are very capable even just slightly modified. tjs and yjs are too expensive, people always sell them for way more then they are worth. the old yotas that are solid axles are great too. anything with a solid axle is worth it as a rig. ifs front axles annoy the hell out of me and parts are way more expensive. just plan out your build and search the forums to learn from peoples mistakes. i love my xj and cant wait to modify it more. even with a 3" and 31"s that i ran for awhile, it was still a very capable rig. it was also a great dd, got about 21 mpg on the highway (3", 31"s, 5spd) have fun and good luck!

 

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I won't be ready financially for another few years, too many other things on the wish list, haha. But some day! I may even turn it into a father son project once my lil guy gets older.

 

Getting new shoes, the tires from the p/o are shit and are not holding air that well. Decided on these Coopers At3s (have them on my xj, love them) just not sure if i want to stick with same size (275/65 R18) or move up to a 285/65 R18? My other thought is to move to a 305/65 R18 (im aware of some trimming for this size just dont know how much) any suggestions?

 

That's great. I should start " Moto's Yota Yard" around here because we don't have anything like that.

 

Just put the 275/65/18 E rated AT3s on mine a couple days ago. Still working on the tire pressure.
