I HAVE A DB HD installed on my 2017 crewmax that leaks a lot. The majority of the leak appears to occurs under the black bed rail caps. Water is somehow getting under the caps and leaking into bed of truck.

Question, has anyone take these off and put clear silicone down and then reinstalled caps to prevent water from getting in? Any help would be appreciated. AFE023D8-787D-491F-AE4C-1D25929C8EE5.jpg

It looks like you may have tightened the clamp(s) down too tight causing the plastic bed cap to warp and possibly lead to a water entry point. I would try backing off on the clamp tightness.

I wish I could help but seems the only water I get in is very slight and it's only in a car wash when it shoots sideways and under. I have the same thing going on with my rail though. I thought mine was when I was in a rush and backed out garage with db still open. Thought mine was self inflicted stupidity.

I called diamondback and they told me they redesigned the clamp system so it does not pinch bed cap. The new system is more evenly spread out. Long story short they are sending me a brand new cover!!!! Now that’s customer service!!

I took my bed caps off and siliconed them down. Not because of leaks but because I didn’t like that they slid back-and-forth. I could see the slight scratches where they would move.

I went from underneath the bed rail and you can see how they kind of snapped him.

It’s been a while. But id be careful with just prying it. Go slow and peek where the clips are. It’s easy when you figure out how fasteners work. I can look at mine tomorrow and it may jog my memory how they work.

So I tried to look and I can’t tell how they come off anymore LOL but if I remember correctly I think they were shaped like arrows that snap into holes in the top of the bed, if you pull up too much it will fold the arrows the wrong way. You have to pull up and then push on one side of the arrow to get it to snap out then push on the other side of the arrow to get it the rest of the way. Once you get one up you’ll see how they all come up. Sorry it’s glued down now.

I have a leak in mine from the front right bulkhead. It appears there is a crack in the silicon where the rubber seal on the bulkhead joins with the top rail. i haven't addressed the problem yet, but hope a little silicon in the joint will do the trick.

Yeah, mine does leak in a few spots. Will have to retighten down the lids and the center part as I do get water in over the wheel wells. I noticed that I do get water in by the tailgate but think that the water is coming in between the tailgate and where it connects.

If anyone is looking for a like new DiamondBack HD cover, I'm advertising one on Craig's List (Sacramento, Gold Country, Reno, Chico and Bay area feeds). It came with my 2013 and I don't need it. Trying not to say too much since I haven't been a forum member long enough to advertise.

@mgm16trdpro - I am about to pull the trigger on a DB. Yours is the only one I have ever seen in person and it was sick as shit. I recall seeing pics of your light set up underneath. My interweb skills aren't what they should be - mind educating us all again how you mounted your lights under your DB cover? From what I recall it resembled the Northern Lights over Scandinavia. (I'd settle for just being able to see my turkey hunting gear at 5:00 am. I usually just have a mag light in my mouth.)

No worries buddy. It's cheap and easy .they're auto access led strip. They have timers in case u forget to shut off and can get push button or motion version activated. They simoly run in 3 aaa batteries.
20170915_214703.jpg u can see in top pic where I mounted 1 in top. I also did 1 in botyom pic same location but in cover closer to cab.
    20170915_214816.jpg 20170410_200416.jpg 20170410_200555.jpg 20170410_200228.jpg 20170410_200053.jpg 20170410_195731.jpg
Notice last pic, in the db cover there's square groves under cover. U can see the black square which is the auto access light box and it's placement, how it fits perfectly in the square grooves under bed cover. That way when cover closed u can't even tell there's anything there. Just reach hand up n push button for light. That or get motion sensed ones. I did same placement in grooves but a 2nd one toward front of cab. With them in the grooves they do cut down on light projection forward since up against side n top of rail. U could also put flat on botyom if u just wanted to use 1 for whole bed. I like the stealth look of not being able to see anything there unless u open cover like in pic. Good luck buddy.

Thanks so much man. That is such an awesome solution, cheap! Kudos to AutoAccess for developing an awesome product, cheap, and to you and your vision making it not only functional but literally a work of art for your application. inch for inch - literally - your truck is the most solid functionally and beautiful out there. some outfit should be paying you millions for your vision.

Hold up, you only have two Access strips? Or is that 3, 4 or 8? the output is crazy.

Correct, just 2. 1 in front and 1 toward back of cover. Appreciate the kind words. I wish someone would pay me for all I've done to truck, that would mean a whole bunch more of goodies.

I've had bunch of people ask about these lights. Those I know that got the same seem to be pretty happy with them too and thanked me after. Especially after that expensive db cover purchase IT was great to find an inexpensive fix and product to resolve the issue of lack of light magnified by the cover. Its,, effective, it's cheap, and it's easy (no drilling or running wires. Just peel back revealing 3m tape and stick in place. I'm actually still on same batteries for both. I just wasn't sure if the motion was a good idea or not. I can see the benefits and would be cool. I just don't know if my netting or swing boxes moving would cause it to constantly turn on n off killing batteries non stop.

Actually all the times I've recommended these damn lights, auto access should send me a free motion 1 to try toward tailgate. I'd love to be able to open tail and boom there be light. Not that reaching my finger under n pushing a button is a big deal. I just wasn't sure if in my particular circumstances of having a bunch of shit back there always would small movements or shifts cause it to turn on constantly when not needed? Either way, u make a good point. Auto access you owe me, send me a damn motion sensor strip to try near the tailgate. They should owe me at least that for increasing their sales lol.

If someone keeps an empty bed I'd definitely try a motion sensor near the tailgate. Would be awesome to just lower tail and have light automatically turned on, close tailgate n let timer shut it off automatically. I'd highly recommend trying this if ur truck bed don't look like mine always carrying shit back there.

I got the cover on tonight. I love it, although I don't have it adjusted how I want it yet. The cab panel isn't laying completely flat; I think I may have the center panel too tight. In any event I ordered some Access lights and will be installing them within a few days. Looking at your pics and your explanation, you actually have the light strip mounted facing the back window of the cab correct, as opposed to facing the bed (when the cover is down/closed)?

Love it correct. So with cover closed u don't see the light mounted. It's actually in between the 1st and last rail. Before u peel and stick, just hold them up in there and make sure u like.

These pics are where I mounted near tailgate. I did same near cab. I think by mounting them flat in between rails, bc the DB is reflective chrome underneath by mounting flat in between rails it reflects in all directions. With just 1 between rails in 1st and last grooves my entire bed lights up nicely. Maybe even get someone just to hold in place while you take a step back and look to make sure u good b4 peel n stick.

I did mine by myself so that's not needed. I also did on cold winter night and had to put a portable heater in my bed closed to warm it up in there. U prob won't have to go that far now. Good luck buddy, I love the cover on your black truck, looks great. Badass.

Yeah the box, wire, and strip is all flush mounted to bottom of cover between the 1st and last rail. Both even toward left handle side. The only thing I did besides sticking the strip directly in the middle of rail is, I cheated the strip to the corners but still on bottom of flat bed rail. The tailgate 1 is cheated to corner toward tailgate, and the one toward the cab is cheated to the corner closest to cab. So although near corner it's not actually on corner, it's still on the flat bottom just cheated toward the most upfront and rear corners. But still on flat bottom part of bed between rails. Hopefully u can understand how I'm trying to explain. Any help just ask.

Thanks so much for this write-up and taking those pics for me. It was perfectly clear and I know exactly what you did. I plan to do the same. I bought a motion Access light and also one with the switch/timer. I figured they were cheap enough, if I didn't like either the motion or the switch version, I'd switch it out. There seem to a million uses for these types of lights around the house and cabin.
I really love the look of this cover. So cool. And @mgm16trdpro, thanks to you for the inspiration -- yours is the only one I ever saw in person before putting mine on last night.

Np my man, anytime. I love it on your truck. U will love it. I do mine. Lmk how the motion works for u. I wanted to get 1 for the rear, just wasn't sure with my cargo netting moving around if it would constantly being tripping it on.

I just got their 8 inch cross bin and love it. Updated info and pics on mgm16trdpro build thread. Love the versatility of it. Love the way I have my bed setup now. Checks all boxes, very functional and versatile without breaking the bank besides the cover itself. That did break the bank lol. Still worth it imo.
