This is the off road/work trailer I built a few years ago with my brother. I scavenged the hubs from my old drum brake FJ40 axle. The locking hubs acted like a parking brake. Anyway, I have since changed out the axle and are getting wheel adapters to fit tundra wheels. I am finally going to build a lid for it. With the lid it can double as a lockable tool trailer and off road camping trailer. I will load all my camping gear in it and be able to sleep (diagonally) in the bed of the truck while driving cross county.

I plan on updating this as the lid, new fenders, and wheels get added. I welcome any suggestions. Untitled-35.jpg Untitled-36.jpg Untitled-37.jpg Untitled-41.jpg DSCN1088.jpg

Love it. I've seen some "mule" type trailers like yours with roof top tents adapted to them which is kind of nifty.

I got the lid started. It still needs the hinges, gas struts, latch/lock, and some bracing. I also bought some wheel adapters from 6 lug to 5 lug Tundra. Also some used Tundra wheels

I was thinking this same thing! Maybe add a propane tank as well. Obviously, depending on your needs.

Nice add on by the way, coming along nicely!

    Thanks,
So I originally built this years ago to haul tools, materials, and camping gear when I had a 4runner. I just used a canvas tarp over the top. Every year I would do a 2-3 week trip and it held everything the 4runner or later my Tacoma could not. Now that I am building a locking lid I can pull tools around to job sites and during the 2-3 week trips out west not have to drive the fully loaded tundra everywhere and leave the trailer at a base camp so to speak.

So I bought some used Tundra wheels and some adapters. The adaptors work great and are hub centric, the issue is the backspace on the factory wheels. The tires rub on the shackle mount. So...back to toyota 6 lug and get a spare or order a wider axle.
