Opinion on aggresive tires/lift 2016 TRDpro

hey guys-

New here. Purchased my TRDpro Tundra 2 years ago and I love this thing but as many of you may know the Michelin tires are a little lame looking. I started looking into new tires, which brought me into lifts, which put me into spacers, which threw me over to new rims. Things are getting expensive fast.


I want a more aggressive looking tire, I also kind of like the offset look a little bit. Don’t like the tires completely flush. I’ve taken my truck to a couple local spots where they have given me quotes.

The Nitto terra grapplers G2's look real nice. I’ve seen people fit them on the stock rims. This would save me a ton lol.

I brought the truck into the Toyota dealership and they are certified to do everything under warranty. But they are suggesting a new set of rims, with a lift to achieve the Look I want. I don’t want to destroy the ride feeling of the TRD pro suspension. I know certain level kits and lifts can do this. But they claim to use ready lift and said everything will be done the correct way.

Have I dug in too far? To those who have fit more aggressive tires on the stock rim, are you happy with the look? No rubbing? Can you share pics?

I do like the negative offset look a lot. I don’t need it to be crazy thought. Maybe -24 or so. I’ll attach some pics of my truck as well as what I think kind of looks nice.

I basically want to know if I can avoid lifting the truck and purchasing new rims just by fitting tires to the stock build. Will the beefier tire give me a slightly better stance without rubbing or looking ridiculous. I’m warning you up front I only know so much. I’m a newbie as far as truck modifications go.

My truck is the white tundra. The silver is a look I really like. It doesn’t need to be that big of a lift or offset though. I’d be happy with a little less.

Also any recommendation on wheels or tires let me know

295/70/18's and a 1 1/2" spacer should do the trick. Maybe some shims/shackles from Coachbuilder for a little extra lift.

Whatever you do, don't get those god awful rims that guy has on his silver truck.

 

If I had I PRO I don' think I'd change the suspension, that' what sets it apart otherwise buy a SR5. As far as wheels and tires there's plenty of options and plenty on this Forum with a PRO running aftermarket wheels and tires. Go through the build section and check some member's rides out to get some ideas.

That looks pretty nice… And you were able to achieve that just with coach builders? That would save me a ton of money and pretty much get me the look I want.

 

Your truck looks great just the way it is. I would just roll with some beefier mud terrains and call it good.

 

Welcome to the forum! I'd suggest when the time comes, replace your OEM wheels with something in the +20/+25 offset range with at least 295mm tires. If you aren't really planning on doing much off roading and want to stick with your OEM wheels, then get yourself some 1.25" wheel spacers.

 

15 pro with 2 coachbuilder shims up front, +3 shackles in the back, 1.25” spidertrax spacers and 295/65 Goodyear duratrac. Last week I ditched the spacers for a +25 wheel and 295/70 ridge grapplers. +25 offset wheel sits pretty much the same as stock with spacer.

Welcome Dan. I agree with @Watt maker. CB shackles and shims, 295 70 18 and perhaps a 1.25 wheels spacer (Bora or Spidertrax) for an offset of +28. Then you'll find the truck with the larger tires feels a little sluggish. BD or Dap tune to make it peppy again...... It never ends.

I think the coach builder setup was $435 shipped (4x shims, +3 shackles, carrier bearing drop, and poly bushings)
Spidertrax are $260 plus shipping. I’m actually about to list my old set in the for sale section.
I did the shackles myself then paid to install shims and align it.

 

Do you feel any difference in the articulation of the suspension after the CB Shims?

Yea just like what everyone suggesting. CB shim you should be able to fit 295/70 no problem just need to remove the front tire air splitter. If you want you can save a little on shackles and get the toytec. If you want to lift the rear.

So from what I’ve read. The CB shackles and shims really won’t harm the TRD suspension. Which is partially the reason I purchased it. They will allow me to fit a meaner tire which is what I wanted. I am reading for the most part however that wheel spacers are bad.

 

I wouldn’t trust wheel spacer but that’s me. A co worker lost a wheel on the freeway due to a wheel spaced failing. Be safe and get new wheel.

 

Sometimes simple and clean is best...295/70r18 nitto G2s with Front flares removed that’s it
