You're not in over your head.. It sounds a lot more complicated than it is. If you continue to brew there is some software called Beersmith, it's EXCELLENT for building recipes and changing them over time. You can measure every aspect of your brew and really lock your brewery in. It used to be like $20, not sure what a license is now. Worth every penny.

Also, with your IPA, did you secondary? Dry hop? 4 weeks seems REALLY short for an IPA..

IPA is a style that was invented during British colonial times, when they would send kegs to India they would dry hop the wooden kegs to preserve the beer. Thus the name India Pale Ale. To get a good IPA you should be dry hopping for a considerable amount of time!

Beer is magical. Drinking it is awesome, brewing it makes you a wizard. I miss the smell of mancereal in my garage during and after a boil.

I did dry hop in a primary only. Had it in the carboy fermenter for a week, then dry-hopped for a week. Then bottled. It was a pretty basic 1-gal stovetop kit.

That was the time frame the recipe/instructions called for. So I’ll leave them in the bottles for maybe 2 more weeks I guess?

They can age in bottles just fine, I'd try one every week until they start to come together. Then you have a baseline for the next batch.

Yeah I was thinking 4 weeks was really early. Just from what I've done so far nothing was even bottle until after 4 weeks and conditioned in bottles for 2 more weeks.

Thread is getting stale. 20180206_212911.jpg 151797062149490283550.jpg
I accidentally ordered 2 pumpkin ales kits but the 2 big mouth bubblers on purpose. Time to brew soon. The one in the fermenter will be ready to bottle in 2 or 3 weeks.

I don't see anything wrong with that at all. I have brewed that smashing pumpkin before really good beer. I may see if I can get something brewing myself this weekend!

Is that Beer ready yet? I'll be coming upstate next week from Binghamton, then over to Ludlow VT. My first Brew was a success and have everything for another batch, but been busy. It's not a money saver as I too thought, but it sure is cool. My company name......if ever, is Bare Bear Beer. BTW, Pears chopped into cubes, sautéed in butter and used as a substitute for potatoes. I leave the skins on....so you don't have to Pare a Pair of Pears.

I have 1 batch to bottle next week. The other 4 still need to brew and yeah seems like something always comes up. Thought about trying to brew 1 today but afraid I could get called into work before I get finished.

I'll give the sauteed pears a try.

I'll give one more Pear recipe: Montagnard sandwich, origin, The Alps region. 2 pieces of Rye bread, spread with course grain grey poupon, cover with a few or more slices of Prosciutto and top with sliced Blue cheese. Bake in the oven until cheese melts. While baking in the oven, slice a Pear,(don't pare,) and sauté in butter until golden brown. Add the pear slices to the top of each sandwich piece, and you can either slice it into pieces and have it open faced, or sandwich it and slice in 2 like I do. It goes great with Beer or red wine.

Its like ammo.....can never have too much!

I'm starting to build a recipe for my next brew. I've been drinking a lot of juicy/hazy ipa's lately that have been amazing. Going to go with that next.

Well I decided to hurry up and do the Smashing Pumkin. Roughly 30 min in to it. I wanted to do it outside but it's kinda raining. 20180215_110434.jpg

Definitely recommend BrewDog....really cool place, great outdoor seating if you go through the summer...huge fire pit, food trucks outside or you can order dinner inside

I had no idea there was so many home brewers on here! I have been brewing for 7 years now. I have a 10 gallon all grain set up, but I only do 5 gallon batches so I can keg it. I built a 1 keg mini fridge kegerator. So much easier than bottling and no more worrying about bottle conditioning and waiting an extra 2 weeks for carbonated beer!

Homebrewer here as well. Go by my real life name Devin over at homebrewtalk.com .
I use the BIAB technique. Started brewing about 5 years ago and switched to all-grain 3 years ago. Looks like you are having some fun in this thread.

    Prost!!!

If anyone is looking for some beer brewing equipment I'm selling mine. It's got everything needed to start brewing and it's all brand new, still in boxes. I bought it to brew with a friend of mine and he and I just got too busy. He no longer does it and I don't drink anymore lol. I'm the OKC area. PM me if interested.
