Just to make sure I am understanding you correctly. The BDX is hooked up to install the tune. Once that is completed you can unhook it and store it until you want to tune again. I am interested in a tuner but not interested in having a cable and device just hanging around in the cab.

@dirtydeeds sells these things I think. Maybe he could chime in here and clear up some of these discrepancies.

Are you sure this is not an adjustment on the Bullydog display ONLY? Mine doesn't work yet on my 2018 but on my old 2008 I'm pretty sure you needed the hypertech plugin to adjust speedo on the vehicle.

That's possible. I'll jack it up +50% when I leave work today and see what it does.

    More to come.

You are correct Troysbama. Speedo remained unaffected but the BD speed reading read +50%.

The Bully Dog Website shows it should work for my 2017 5.7 flex. Have you also tested the Hypertech?

I have tested Hypertech. They both make the same power. But Bullydog has more options.

And unfortunately Hypertech will often times throw a check engine light on a 14+ tundra.

I just want to load a tune and not keep it plugged in all the time. All of the options are not very desirable for me, personally. I just want more HP, more TQ, and more MPG. Don't plan on changing tire size or disabling seat belt alarms, etc. It looks like the Bullydog BDX you can flash and unplug but the GT you have to mount on your dash. Is that correct?

Both bdx and platinum are downloaded and may be unplugged after downloading the tune. Neither has to be left plugged in.

BDX does not do speedo calibration. You will need the Hypertech in-line speedo calibrator

It can on some vehicles. So they list it as being able to do it.

Got my BDX uploaded and installed in my truck now. Took it for a quick spin it definitely feels different. The throttle is much more sensitive but not as sensitive as tow haul. It will take some getting used to but I like it. I might want to turn the throttle sensitivity to stock when off-roading or install the trail tune. In preparation for this I’ve already been running premium the last two tanks of fuel. The shift points are much better. The transmission seems like it’s still figuring out what’s going on, but towards the end of my drive it started being more consistent. I did one full throttle pass into third gear, it held the gears out and made very confident shifts. I also noticed there is a option for zero point calibration if ever that comes into need. That’s cool! I’m glad I put the truck on the charger while doing the initial updating process of the tuner. It took about an hour total to get it all done.

The best way I can describe how it feels is that it overall is more crisp. It feels more refined and accelerates with a purpose. It doesn’t short shift as much. It’s like a in between stock and tow haul with a little more power and tidier shifts.

If you have kids and they drive it, you can have a speed limiter 65 or 75 mph lol.
Neutral rev limiter, disable chime, horn, beep, power windows, multiple other peramiters. Its a nice tool.

Oh and if you want to let the dealer know you use it, it comes with metal Bully Dog emblems. One for each side of your truck ha ha.

I think it was at the main menu you go to vehicle settings. I was quite surprised at how much it listed. I did not try them all so I can’t confirm if they work or not. I would think they do because I didn’t see a option for speed calibration for tire size. And I know they listed for other vehicles.

You may want to make sure the tuner is up-to-date with the latest file for your truck.

There is not an option for better gas mileage. But some claim to get slightly better mileage if you can keep your foot out of it. I would think you might want to keep the stock shift points for better mileage. But I really don’t know, as I’m still a day into using it. And I think I remember reading somewhere that it’s not available for 2018 yet. Best bet is to call them.
