Pretty sure this is illegal maybe at least in Oregon. I bought some quads a few years ago and had to finance them separately. The next business day my sales guy told me the new one interest rate was actually going to be 1% lower and asked if I minded signing new paperwork. Then he jumped on his motorcycle and brought them to me to sign. He told me that they weren’t allowed to finance anybody at a higher rate then the bank approved.

With that being said I did a few years at a dealership and have heard that go the opposite way. You are financed at 5.25% you take the car home for the weekend or whatever and then your financing didn’t go through. Then you get the we need to up the percentage or find a new bank phone call.

Back on to the original post. I just drove by my Toyota dealer today and spotted a white lifted 4Runner which is exactly what the wife wants. Checked their website when I got home and they are charging 6,995 for spacer lift, most likely 18” Fuel wheels and some sort of 33” tire along with tint and n fab steps.

Oh yeah I don’t disagree with that at all. I wish I could remember the exact reason he gave me for needing to lower our rate but that was a few years ago.

Please don't feel bad about mark ups on Tundras. We walked into a Harley dealer a couple of weeks ago and my wife saw this bike in the Cement color and thought it was a really pretty bike. I asked her to go over and turnover the pricing sheet. The look on her face was priceless! She exclaimed, we did not pay this much for your truck. I drive a 2016 1794 Tundra bought brand new. The dealer mark up on the bike brought the sales price up to around 52 and change. We are talking about a two wheel form of transportation here....

They either get some sucker to pay that much, or knock a bit off the price and convince someone they're getting a great deal while still making a killing.

There was a younger girl at the dealership buying a Corolla when I bought my Tundra, and she was basically just taking everything the salesman said as gospel truth. I heard him ask her annual salary and she said she made $12.50/hr working part time... I honestly felt like going and sitting with her to get her a better deal.

He’s now a Tundra guy as well. He bought his after I took my quads in for service one time. Although at the time of the sale I had my 4Runner.

last F150 I bought the finance dude called me a day later and said I needed to sign new paperwork. When I asked why he said Ford credit lowered the rate by 1%. Not sure why i already had a great rate. Like I said it was the last F150 for me. Biggest piece of shit I ever owned.

My local dealer does the exact same thing. Every time I'm in there they have sr5 with a spacer lift, wheels and tires and tint for over $50k. They add an "custom series fee" that's usually a few grand. Ridiculous yet there is always someone willing to pay it.

its funny how you people call theses dealerships stealership's when you don't have any issues about dept/grocery stores/convienence stores marking up 10c cost item to 99c and have no issues but when a dealership does the same thing you complain.

or when you goto mc donalds and charge you 1.69 for a large drink that cost at most 15-25 cents?

if you look at the ratio's its about the same for each.

I think the reason we don't complain about those items is because this is a Tundra forum, so we complain about Tundra stuff.

Are you really comparing the scams a dealership repeatedly tries to pull off with a Big Mac? Does the Mcds cashier try to stick it to a young inexperienced burger buyer but not try to withhold the extra pattie from a seasoned fatty with a big gut?

I see your point and I suppose it is valid but In my experience dealerships are full of unethical dirt bags that have very little compassion for the consumer and have no issues selling bullshit to people they full well know can not afford and will quite likely be put in a hardship.
As far as marking items up. Yes, you are correct. It’s the case with any consumer item.

but you have to remember 60-70 of the buying public rather pay the cost of someone else doing the research/work. that's why we call a plumber/electrician to do work we couldn't do, but on the flip side, I charge the same for when I work on that persons computer. I learned my lesson trying to install a water heater that would have cost me $100 in labor/parts if I paid someone to do, than me spending $170 cause I didn't have the knowledge that a person with knowledge knew.

Sorry bro, I don’t see your point. I don’t want to argue with you. Percentages, well I would say 80-90 percent of dealership salesman/finance people are douche bags.
But, as many here have said. Someone will pay that price and a dealership has every right to try and get it.

Sorry... that's a BS comparison. Dealerships make make money from service tech hours & the magic math of selling vehicles. There's profit in both, the same as there is profit in Mcdonalds. No one's arguing that.

What people are complaining about here would be the same as if someone walked in to McDs and someone tried to sell them a $25 burger because it has an extra pickle on it. "custom burger" . Just because someone's ill-informed enough to pay for it, doesn't mean it's right.

That and their other shady as shit tactics for scheming you out of money.
