Just want to put my 2 cents on it for anyone thinking about buying...by far the best all around tire I’ve had. Been through multiple M/Ts and A/Ts on multiple tundras. I was a little hesitant to pull the trigger just because I wasn’t too sure on the look of them, not being an agressive looking tire, but through all the reviews I read and heard about I went with them and am sure glad I did. We’ve had a lot of rain and snow in WA the last couple months and they’ve performed way better than I even expected. The few trails I’ve been on they have performed excellent as well. So if you’re considering them...DO IT.

I had 3 to 4 sets on my last Tundra. Typically got 70,000 miles out of them. Have 27,000 on the new Tundra picked up in late August. I can't wait to change.

I'm browsing right now... I want to keep the same tire but jump up in size with a leveled front end. Top row is whats on the truck now.

FYI - Just placed an order through Costco for some 275/70/18 load range E Defenders. They have a sale going on right now that includes 70.00 off (no mail in rebate stuff) plus 1 cent installation per tire. :O

I went into my nearest CostCo yesterday and did the same thing. Only they said that the Defenders didn't have a high enough speed rating for my truck and had to go with the Michelin LTX M/S2, for warranty reasons. We looked them up and the tread pattern is the same. The "warranty" issue apparently came into play because the Defender has a speed rated T=118mph, and the M/S2 has a rating of H=130mph, and their info said that the H rating was needed for this vehicle (Aren't they speed limited to 112mph? I can't remember). Dunno, sounds fishy to me, but this morning I'm looking at the specs for the two tires and they're only subtly different.

    Defender

    LTX M/S2

Am I missing something else obvious? I know that a higher speed rated tire is going to be more costly, but other than that....

Discount Tire never said anything about speed rating to me, but I do remember that the LTX M/S2 is the older version...had it on 2 previous trucks.

Got my tires mounted and balanced yesterday, then promptly put them back into storage for summer use. (I run studded snows in the winter.)

Well I made the change. I went from 295/70/18 Ridge Grapplers on Method NV305's that weighed ~100 lbs a piece to OEM SR5 wheels powdercoated black with TRD Pro center caps and 275/70/18 Michelin Defenders LRE tires that weight ~85 lbs each. This switch made sense as my truck is primarily used for towing my travel trailer. So far I love the switch. Acceleration and braking performance has been restored and the tires are practically silent on the road. My wife likes the lower ride height too. :)

    Old and new setup

I had the Michelin M/S (before the M/S2) on my 5.3L Envoy Denali and loved them. My Uncle had the same tires on his Tahoe for 10 years, he tried to get 100k miles out of them but one got a knot on the interstate around 98k. Here's a pic of front and rear passenger on his Tahoe at 93k.

Wise move, Michelin nailed it with this truck tire, you will like the mileage wear as well. Personally I loath singing loud tires.

Was up to the skids in wet unplowed snow. Had to drop my daughter at my mom's before work. No problem

I put mine on last week, they sure are nice and quiet. They didn't get the front ones balanced proper though, so I moved them to the back until I can get back to Costco with them.

@SouthBoundSteve did you get these in and mounted?
I hope not. I'm so pissed. Tire pressure light was on, all looked good... I look on the inside of the tires and two of mine had delaminated and the belt is visible. I didn't hit anything. Looking closer at the others I see issues as well. These are the worst tires in the world.

April fool's. They're still bad ass and I still love them.

Damn - three days too late but you still got me. And I’ve never even owned a set. Yet.

Maybe a bit strange since these and their predecessors have long been my top pick for an on-road light truck tire. Then again, on road and light truck never did fit much in the same sentence for me, until recently.

I'm still loving these tires. Haven't noticed at changes in performance or noise as I put more miles on. Don't notice any noticeable wear.

I need to have found a sweet spot between 30 and 32 psi.

My buddy just got some based on my experience and is loving them. Winter is coming and I have no worries at all. Other than dedicated snow tires they're the best I've had in the winter months.

    How you liking yours @SouthBoundSteve

That looks great, and exactly what I'm about to do. Was on Method Roosts on Cooper St maxx 275/70/18. Going to put the stock TRD OR wheels back on with either Defenders or the new Cooper Discoverer XLT.

Any suggestions, or thoughts about the defenders? I have an Icon Stage 2 on right now (2.5 up front and 1.5 in the rear)

I had the Cooper AT3 LTX installed recently. They are holding up well in the rain. Haven't had a chance for snow yet, but we'll see in a few more months.

When I bought mine at CostCo, the fella asked if I Tow/Haul. When I answered in the affirmative, he said that I should be running what's now on my truck, they say LTX M/S². So that's what I had mounted up. Price, warranty and all the fine print was the same....so. Maybe there's a slightly different load rating?
