I have those plastic trim tools. I just went up under it from the inside of the cup ring and lifted it up. Once you get it going, its very easy. You shouldn't have any problems with the tabs. I'd be more worried about scratching the outside if you dont have those trim tools.

May have to do this with mine. Just got a set of trim tools. Thought I needed them to change out my grille. Didn't. But will come in handy for this.

Is it that easy to remove the rings around the vents? Here soon I want to de-chrome the inside of my truck.

Plastidiped the cup ring, shifter surround, shifter and the SR5 center counsel pieces. I couldn't do the chrome inside the shifter

I think the rings around the AC vents are little harder. From what I remember someone saying, you have to take the dash apart to get behind it.

Still have a few more small chrome bits, but man getting rid of that blinding sun glare was the best mod yet

An alternative is to use 3m pressure wrap. I got a textured film with a grain and color that matches the stuff on each side of the head unit called "brushed steel ", I think. The AC rings were easiest, even did the Toyota logo in the steering wheel. Ran the grain all vertical to match the existing. Have not done the stuff around the shifter. Did all of it in place.

When you hit it with heat it kind of pulls itself onto the surface. I used my wife's hair dryer (my shop heat gun is way too hot). They sell special applicator tools but I just bought some plastic putty knives and bondo spreaders at home desperate. The outer part of the ring I pressed into the crack with the corner of the smaller putty knife, the inside I pressed in with my fingers. I practiced first in the house at the kitchen table wrapping a couple hammer heads.

I'm working away from home but will find a recept or something this weekend and post it. If you google this there's tons of info and utube videos. Some shops are doing entire Lamborghinis and vette's in a carbon fiber texture.

Yeah that glare at the cup holder sucked.
Do you have a red truck or a pro with the red stitching to play off the dip? Looks real nice.

    Okay here is some information:
The material is; 3M Scotchprint wrap film 1080 series, Brushed Steel BR-201.
It's sold by the ft off of rolls 60" wide.
1ft was $21.99 fromVViViD Vinyl on Amazon. Or, Metrorestyling.

No Pro. But I like the white black and red set up. Will probably get some leather seat covers in the future with the red stitching.

2 nice things about this is it is cheap and it's reversible. The biggest thing that can go wrong is if you slip with the blade while trimming the edges so be careful.
I practiced on a hammer head at the well lit comfort of the kitchen table before working on the truck. The first circular AC vent took 3 tries.
    Good luck!

Thanks! I am not 100% sure that I will be able to handle the wrap, so I was researching about alternative ways to get it covered with carbon and came across these carbon fiber overlays: https://www.carid.com/2008-toyota-tundra-dash-kits/remin-dash-kit-basic-kit-17376098.html It's just stick on with the same 3M tape and the pieces seem to be made out of real carbon fiber material, however I am a little bit concerned with the fitment and overall look of this applique. It's about 1/8" thick so it may look tacky. Any thoughts about such overlays?

The same place I got the 3m brushed steel sells a carbon fiber texture. For $30.00 you can get enough to do a couple trucks. If it doesn't work out you haven't lost much

    That looks awesome!!
What kind of paint did you use to paint that chrome around the air vents.

And is that chrome plastic? Will paint hold?

No it is plastic welded in. I just taped it off, ran an exacto knife around the edge then plasti-dipped it
