the residue is easily removeable. Never had an issue removing a sticker from a car....or emblems, etc and i've removed them all from basically any vehicle i've owned

Two local dealers I've dealt with (one for my previous Chevy; another for my Tundy) would give $100 over Carmax price on a trade. I've used their appraisal to sell 4 different vehicles and got a little more selling on my own, but it was a nice sanity check on my asking price.

One of, if not the first thing I did to my Tundra ,was debadge it. That included the carmax sticker.
Years ago we bought my wifes minivan there. I was closely inspecting their carmax sticker on the back. Our salesman saw me and said, "you're gonna take that off, aren't you?" I said, "Soon as we get it home".

I bought my used 14' last year with 3800 miles on it there. They give a good trade in price on vehicles...you can sell to them and not buy from them. It was pretty easy. The truck I wanted was a couple states over so they put in a request to get it moved and put my name on it with no paperwork signed. I rolled over there once it was in stock, looked her over and took her home. They do have some decent prices on new vehicles as well. I think it was one up in WI that has the Tundras.

I bought my truck at Carmax and found them to be great to deal with. Pricing was fixed at around what I thought I could negotiate the dealer inflated prices down to.
I found it on their website in CO but it was the best mix of the trim/options that I wanted and only had 9000 miles on it. Cost me $200 or so to truck it from Colorado to Nashville, no obligation to buy.
Nine months after I picked it up I was especially thankful for their warranty/after sales support after it was discovered the windscreen had a leak that caused some electrical issues. Carmax looked it up and said they had replaced the windscreen before I bought it . They sent someone around and fitted a brand new windscreen in my driveway, no questions asked, no cost.

In April I bought a 2012 Tundra from Carmax in Santa Rosa. The price felt right for the mileage and condition. The paperwork process was painless, I needed a truck and I was in and out of there in less than an hour. Overall I'm satisfied, despite some problems I'll mention now.

Their service department is BAD. Here are some mistakes they made while "freshening" up the vehicle:

    - Did not properly install the oil drain plug, it was loose and leaking. Thankfully I noticed the oil leaking out before I'd be using their warranty to replace the engine.
    - They installed crappy "new" tires and failed to properly balance them and align the front end. Tire pressures were also way off.
    - They installed new headlights and signal bulbs but didn't fully press the connectors on. During the ride home nearly everything went out as the connectors came off.

They also failed to disclose the obvious steering problems with the vehicle (I think it needs a new rack, or bushings at least). Nothing I wasn't expecting for the milage, but it would have felt more honest if it was addressed.

Don't let this scare you away, just be really diligent about your own inspection and know what you're actually buying. And ask them what their service department touched, so you know what to double check!

Carmax is a good dealership. I have bought from them before and everything went well. They are in the business to make money just like everyone else, so, you should treat them just like every other dealership.

I’ve purchased 4 cars from and sold 1 to Carmax over the years. I’ve always felt like I got a fair deal, though a touch higher priced due to the no haggle policy. To me, the customer service and no haggle pricing convenience were worth it. I’ve had some bad negotiating experiences over the years and have cussed out more than one dealership for their shady tactics.

One of the 4 cars had mechanical issues. Since it was a Land Rover with a reputation for high priced repairs and low reliability, I purchased the Carmax extended warranty. Paid $2-$3k for the warranty and they paid more than $10k in repairs. Never once questioned a warranty claim and always had to have serviced and Land Rover dealership because Carmax techs couldn’t handle it.

I looked at a couple cars at CarMax a couple months ago when looking for a new ride for the Mrs. and ended up passing. I think their deals we're much better a few years ago.

Although I didn't end up buying from them I did stumble upon a dealer/broker in Mesa that buys low mile lease returns and sells them for $499 over what they paid. They rely on volume so some real sweet deals with those guys.

Then there's Carvana. Seems to be some pretty good deals there too.

For the wife's new ride I stumbled across a creampuff Lexus Rx350 on CL minutes after the guy posted and ended up getting it for a screaming price. Private party so no sales tax, which I'll take any day.

I bought one years back, good deal and zero problems! If you buy there they usually sell out of the Super White Tundra because of the high demand though they usually have plenty of MGM's on the lot! Not that anything is wrong with them!

My experience with Carmax went good bought a 2012 Prius. They give good value of trade in then most dealers but they are no hassle. I would go back but I traded it in for my tundra with a Toyota dealer.

Well, I agree with him. In march I checked at carmax a 15' 1794 with 47k miles going for $37k with an interior that smelled like someone had smoked in it and bronze in color. After debating about the smell since I had a newborn, I kept looking. Found a 15' 1794 in black with 13.5K miles on it and had already 4 oil changes on it at the dealer. Didn't smell like cigarette butts and paid only $38.5k for it. Carmax had higher prices after haggling with the other dealer who had it posted for $41,888, and I am guessing they use the same software that finds all posted pricing from dealers like that is the going the rate, which isn't true as dealers always mark up their prices to be where they want to be after dealing.

Just do your homework if you're not purchasing from a local Carmax. In my previous experience with Carmax for distant purchases, EVERY vehicle I was interested in (3) were misrepresented in various ways. Do your homework, confirm and reconfirm. Ask to see pictures of everything, including the complete dealer invoice and that it matches the vehicle.

I have friends who have purchased long distance from Carmax and are very happy. Maybe they just settled....? Had I gone through with my purchase without having someone physically inspect the vehicle via FaceTime with me, I would of been very upset.

Do your research. I've bought both used and new (Toyota) vehicles from them for several years. I've also traded in a few vehicles and always get within $200 of what I estimated using KBB.com. I also have the regular dealerships compete via online quotes and from what I've found, CarMax is always right at the lowest price the dealerships offer. Last, they add options to the vehicle and the price is still lower than the dealerships.

When I purchased my Tundra last July, I walked in, told them I wanted to sell my 09 Tacoma and I wanted to look at their trucks. I walked around with my daughter, hopped in a couple, came back told the salesman dependent upon the price they offered for my Taco I wanted to purchase the White '18 DC Limited. My Taco needed a whole new AC system, had a couple dents and they gave me $15K. The '18 Limited was $44K before the $2,500 incentive from Toyota. I ended up paying a few hundred over $43K out the door, and then applied the $15K to it, paying $28K cash.

The whole evolution took about 2-hours from walking in, to driving out. I will use them again. My wifes Highlander, my oldest daughter and middle daughter's Corolla's and my previous Taco came from CarMax. Always a good experience.

I bought my '11 Tundra years back from Carmax. It was a great
I also had a similar experience when I bought my 2011 years back. No complaints.
