Well three weeks ago I had the Nitro 4.88 Gears and Auburn Limited Slip installed. Really Happy with the result. Has a lot more get up and go, particularly from launch! Not sure as far as gas mileage yet, but with the way I have driven it over the last three weeks I can't imagine that there is any improvement. We will see.
Today I scheduled the header, exhaust, and install. Held off on this until the gears were in. Really looking forward to this Mod!! Thanks Joey Olsin at SDHQ, this guy has taken awesome care of me through every mod I've done there!
Any thoughts from those running headers would be appreciated. I kind of know the upside, anyone have any down side to having this setup?
    Thanks

Zero downside. Are you kidding! Quite frankly IMHO the true LSD mod is the best one. Very high on my list. Your truck is rocking and rolling.....

Gears are the next thing on my list but its so hard to swallow at $3k+ installed. I really hope its worth it......especially for my 4.6L

Yep the price was a consideration, until I drove a Tundra with the 4.88 gears.
Then it became pretty easy to make it happen.
My 35's on the truck with those gears, makes driving a lot more fun!
Plus I just discovered the Tow Haul button! Awesome!

Cant wait to hear how they turn out. Haven't read about too many putting headers on. Are they long tube?

I'm having a brain fart someone on here was quoting about gears the other day or few days ago but I forgot the ratio.. and it wasn't 4.88 and it was another company making or possibly making in the near future??? Are 4.88 really needed with 35s??? I keep hearing no only for 37s on up?!!?!

I think you will love the headers. Are you installing or do you already have a tune installed? And are you doing jba longtube headers or dt's. I'm about to install these jba's and also having my mid pipes custom made for all 4 of my cats. IMG_6338.jpg

I don't know if there needed, but more of a want on my part! I have also heard there is another set of gears coming out at like 5.?? something. I'm not sure. Maybe for the 37 inch tire group? Not much help there. With the gears I had done the truck reacts more like stock with 35's.

I'm doing the Doug Thorley Long Tubes. It was suggested these would give the best gain. No tune yet, but on my radar! Rumors have it that DAP tune will be in Arizona in the not to distant future, might happen. Those JBA's look awesome! Cheers!

Are you talking about the new 5.29 that are coming? Those are recommended for 37’s. 4.88’s were always recommended for 35’s

    I do not have 35’s. I’m probably going 33 with 4.88. I would go 35+ if I wasn’t a traveler

From what I have heard there will be little to no gain on these trucks with the addition of headers. Our exhaust systems are nearly headers already. I was talked out of it. Just what I have heard.

I have JBA long tubes with BAmufflers and the BD trail tune which was written for this specific setup. Its been dyno'd and proven to result in 49 hp and 89 lbs/trq. JBA and DTs give similiar gains, JBAs are just easier to install which still took me like 9 hours lol . Either way you'll be stoked with the results. Still think this was my best mod to date!

This is true with shorties. LTs paired with a good exhaust open these trucks up

I've heard a lot of things on the internet, that's why I do a lot of research and look for facts before I drop $$. There are several dynos and folks on these forums that have dyno'd these trucks before and after headers. It's proven to add 40-50 hp and even more torque.

@dirtydeeds would tell you long tubes are definitely worth it. As far as results he has done extensive testing and proves it to be worth it. I wish I could do it in California. But most here are a bunch of pussies.

I read that today after doing some research.

The article I read also said you don’t get many gains unless the engine has already been modded I.e. chip, supercharged, intake etc

I have about 2k miles on mine. Only headache was to cut and reweld around my 46 gal transferflow tank. I had a band clamp that didn't take well and the small leak threw a P0137 code (Oxygen sensor) so i welded it in permanently.

@JoeH I wanna do the 4.88s and Auburn lsd but I'll have to pay more of my truck off first. I splurged on the SC and scheduled to get re dapped a second time. The remote tune is so easy, to load/unload the modified file. A few mins is all it takes.
