Does anyone know of any quality hard top/aluminum retractable or rolling tonneaus that are rack compatible that are on the market?

I'd like to stay with a hard top tonneau for security and the rack to be removable. I need the rack to haul my 12' jon boat on our extended trips, and maybe kayaks in the future. I need a minimum of 55" of width to fit the boat.

I was planning to go with a canopy and roof rack, but a hard tonneau will give me the security/dry-ish storage I need while still being able to enjoy my roll down rear window and use the box for taller cargo now and then.

BTW, my truck is a 2005 double cab.

Here's the boat rack set up I have now and will need my future rack to be similar to:

Trac Rac makes the SR model that has a base rail that will work with most of the retractable covers. Install them all the time.

Just upgraded from a 2015 Tacoma Off Road to 2017 Tundra crew-cab Off Road. My Tacoma had the three fold BakFlip tonneau with integrated, removable ladder rack. After a couple of years the tonneau leaked and lost rigidity. I was worried about standing on it anymore. I would not recommend this product. Also, the ladder rack needs more diagonal braces. It sways unless I added some diagonal straps.

I purchased my Tundra for more room and towing capacity. I just installed Undercover’s SE one piece hard cover. It is fantastic! It’s rock solid, has quality hardware, and is bone dry. The key is that the sides of the cover wrap over the sides of the bed. But, there was no way to add a ladder rack for my kayaks.

I have decided to add a Rhino-Rack T-hitch rack along with a single Rhino-Rack Vortex bar on the cab. Both are removable, and they don’t inhibit the opening of the tonneau cover. I can add a second bar on the cab for additional capacity. Also, because the rack and bar can be completely removed, I have no issues with parking decks.

Sorry for the long post, but I just finished beating this issue to death!!!

    Love my Tundra!

Edit: The BakFlip pictured above it the product I had on my Tacoma.

Thanks for the info. Shame that the BakFlip didn't work out. I'll have to do more research on it.

I just came across this. Looks pretty skookum and the price isn't too bad after conversion to Canadian pesos. Bonus nachos, they're a Tundras.com supporter too. If that'll will work for me, I just need to find a good tonneau. I'm looking at $3200 for a canopy. The KB Voodoo rack comes to about $1100 CAD. I'm pretty sure I can find a good tonneau for around $1000.

Good stuff. Thanks for the info and pic @KB Voodoo! I think I'm going to go with a retractable tonneau though. Will your rack work with something like the BAK Rollbak?

Pace Edwards retractable yes, Bakflip most likely not.

You just have to pop off the four bolts that attach it to the bed.
