Official Show me your rear end thread

HA...sorry but this isn't the thread you thought it would be.

Background. This morning on my way to work I witnessed a rear end collision. We were stopped at a 4 lane red right, 2 lanes go left and 2 lanes go straight. The light for the 2 left lanes turned Green and the guy in the 3rd lane 2nd vehicle decided to go. He (Ford F150) hits the gas and plows into the Tundra stopped in front of him. He could have gone no more than 15 feet but it buckled the Tundra rear (looked stock chrome) and Ford bumpers (Stock chrome) under. So it got me thinking about what kind of rear bumper I want to put on my truck.

1. Post a pic of your custom bumper
2. Tell us the details, where you got it, made of what, why you got it, how much it cost, pros/cons and any other information you think would help someone make a bumper decision.

If this thread already exist, please disregard and point me in the right direction, I did a search and didn't find anything.

 

Subbed to post my rear when things slow around the shop just enough to get away and build one for my truck.

 

I had a Stout Equipment rear bumper on my '99 and '03 Tacomas. Unfortunately, Stout Equipment stopped making bumpers a long time ago. But that thing was strong and heavy. So strong that I was afraid it would crumple the frame before it received any damage! My '03 got slightly rear-ended at a parking lot, but that bumper easily took it as if a pillow hit it.

Main thing is to have a good, strong mounting system to keep the bumper from shearing off its mounts and causing more damage, and a bumper strong enough, but flexible and pliable enough, to bend or break before the frame crumples or breaks upon a strong impact. I'm guessing a bumper that's too strong or stronger than the frame itself, might not be the most ideal set up since the impact may cause more damage to the frame than to the bumper itself. I was afraid my Stout Equipment bumper was probably stronger than the 1st Gen Tacoma rear C-channel frame, even after I welded DeMello fish plates for added strength, but luckily I never got to find out!

Also have to take into account engineered crumple zones designed to help absorb an impact and help prevent injury to occupants.

Anyway, looking forward to pics and experiences of folks' Tundra rear bumpers on this thread.
