That warranty is not from factory that warranty of 8 yrs is when you purchase the battery cash .......not when the dealer replaces it in your 3 yr or 36k mile warranty

Wonder if my 100k warranty was what he was talking about?

Then again, I did hear him say “all” Toyota batteries. Probably talking out his ass.

Ditto....but we do a lot of camping in the summer so I carry this little rechargeable B&D jumper around. (And it really does work great)Black and Decker.jpg

    That is a good idea.

I have a 3000W generator that I drag around. Not fun

Well today I took the battery into the dealership and it had a bad cell. Replaced it for free since I was still in my 3yr/36k warranty. Didn't even have to see my truck....just needed my VIN and took my word on the mileage being under 36k. Maybe that was because I'm friends with the service guy that helped me :)

Thanks guys for all the help and responses!

I bought my 17' in February and started having battery issues in July. I would charge it to 100% and it would be dead 4 days later if I didn't drive it. At my last service it was replaced under warranty. It must have been part of a bad batch. No problems yet on the new battery but I'm going to keep an eye on it.

Will mine died at 22k, and the dealer replaced it—no charge, but it think it has a 5 year warranty.

So I found this battery looks to have good reviews
What you guys think. Optima yellow. The yellow top is deep-cycle and lots of CCA

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
Yellow tops are great batteries...can't go wrong with Optima!
I made the switch last year, in part as prep for my list of mods (still WIP).

Few things to consider with Yellow vs Red top is your location, application and accessories.
    - They're both high perf batteries that are more resistant to vibration...good thing if you're doing any off-roading/racing.
    - One thing to look out for in addition to the tops is the housing color. The lighter grey are starting and cycling, so you can run upgraded sound systems, lighting, etc. The dark grey housing is more of a starting battery, and understandably has more CCA.
So, if you're in a colder area (like Canada) and don't have a lot of gear on your rig, the red top/ dark grey may be a better option.

Anybody have any experience with Odyssey AND Optima? Love to hear some comparing reviews/ experience.

good to hear thanks. I’m getting a audio system put in my truck and wanted a battery that will start my truck in this -40 temperature, and my alternator not to work hard. They said yellow top was the way to go.

Some have better luck. Now this was in my Jeep, so I put a pretty good load on those charging systems.

I carry cables in my 1988 Toyota (in case I need a jump), and tossed them in the Tundra for a recent meet-up, as a just-in-case for the group. I've jumped and been jumped  countless times over the years, and never had a problem... or if I did :notsure:, I didn't recognize it resulted from jump-starting.

I just tried learning with an internet search and got generalities only:

Can you tell me more about why/ how the "jumper" can be harmed by the "jumpee"? I definitely don't want to F up my trucks, but like to pay forward all the kindnesses I've received over decades of driving junkers.

First and foremost, if you or someone else hooks up the terminals wrong, this is when damage can occur. I know it seems stupid to do this, but it happens more often than one thinks. Another way to mess up systems is grounding out a lead. This is why I usually pull the negative battery terminal when welding on a vehicle. 9 out of 10 times you will be fine, but if you fry an ECU, that is expensive.

This doesn’t apply to you at the moment, but it does to me having a dual battery setup. If one battery goes bad, it will take out the other battery as well. This is why when buying batteries for diesels, you replace both at the same time. Where this does effect you, since I have sat and jumped another vehicle for 30-40 min. If they have a dead Cell, what’s that doing to your system? Food for thought. My current truck has two alternators. One is 150A and the second is 220A. That is a lot of juice to fry a system.

Personally, the jump boxes one can buy now are a great solution for your needs. I don’t worry about other people’s problems. I can offer a ride or a cell phone.

Makes sense. I am really careful about making sure not to cross up cables. But I'm also the fool that's stood waist-high in the Colorado river to jump start a jet ski. That was a time I put a lot of trust in my companions.

I considered an all-in-one jumper/compressor/I-forgot-what-else, before choosing a small compressor recently. I didn't get the combo because it's too big to fit easily under the seat in the Tundra... and I decided I couldn't justify the cost. Based on this info, I guess I should think more about it. Thank you!

I can’t justify the cost either, and I don’t own one.

This sounds horrible, and I like to help people when I can, but if someone can’t maintain their vehicles, they probably can’t afford to repair mine either.

Now if one of my friends called and they knew why the battery died, like left on the lights, I would risk it.

I’m not beneath removing my battery, and starting their vehicle, leave it running on the alternator. We have to do this all the time when running a mini spool gun welder.
