I'm debating between getting 12K plates vs 18K plates. I'll be towing my '72 GMC to shows and my '93 Land Cruiser to the desert each summer. When towing the GMC, I'll be under 12,000 lbs combined but when towing the Land Cruiser, I'll be about 13,250 (its a pig for a small vehicle, plus modifications). I REALLY don't want to put 18K plates on a 1/2-ton truck for one main reason----here in Missouri, you are only given ONE 18K plate and its required to be put on the front which leads to a lot of stops by cops for not having a rear plate, especially on a 1/2-ton when most are running at most 12K plates (which you are given 2). I could put a TRD plate or something on the back to at least show cops that I intentionally did not put a plate back there. I'm thinking I'll just go with the 12K plates and risk a ticket when I'm towing the Cruiser. I dunno. 18K plates have to be renewed yearly here in Missouri and they're pricey compared to 12K's. Thoughts? I can't imagine a cop seeing my setup and thinking I'm overweight with 12K plates. He would at least see that I made an effort to be legal and hopefully not think twice about it. Any who, really enjoying the forum so far. I've been heavily involved in my Land Cruiser forum for the past 10 years and am happy to find a Tundra community to have good chats with as well.

    Thanks,

    Mark

What would happen if you laminated a copy of the 18K plate and installed it on the back?
