Finally got my system installed and I’m impressed! Much better than stock. I went with a Kenwood headunit with Nav

Kicker KS series rear doors speakers

Kicker hideaway Amp/sub (which IMO sounds great)

And I had bought the Kicker KS series for the front doors but they were to deep and my install guy installed Pioneers up front which bummed me out a little because they aren’t on the level of KS series. I know it’s going to bug the shit out of me so I may look for a high quality shallow speaker.
I believe he said the issue was with the window going down.
He placed the Kicker Hideaway under the rear seat of of my crew max dead center. Looks like it fit perfectly.
Overall I’m impressed with the sound and it was definitely a great upgrade.

As a bonus I also bought a color matched TRD PRO grill today from Sparks in my quest to de chrome the entire truck.

I went to the Best Buy at Park Meadows. The guys name is John and he is legit. He has been installing for 30+ years. 23 at that Best Buy.I had to wait a month just to get in but his work was excellent. Only have one crappy picture..

Hell yeah!!!! Agreed to your point of it being a great upgrade. let’s face it, Toyota didn’t put the money into the sound system but that’s what aftermarket anything is about....making your gear better! I did the same thing within a month of signing papers

    Congrats

My question for all of the guys that have replaced the factory JBL head unit with the Kenwood. Do you loose all of the items like maintenance tracking and Oil change countdown that the factory head unit has integrated in to it?

Looking good. With a good set of spacers you can get just about anything up front. Lots of room in the doors.

The guy that did the install had a lot of time doing this stuff. 30 years. He could not place those Kicker KS series up front in the door. They were to deep. I believe he said it interferes with the window?
If you know something he doesn’t please share because those are the speakers I wanted up there.

I've given up on my stereo. I can't find a way to improve the JBL for under 500. Thought I was close after talking with tech12volts but wasn't gonna work. I can't blame him, this damn JBL is build like crap. My new plan is to do some soundproofing this summer to cut down on rattles and road noise. I'll learn to live with the crappy sound. Maybe adding a BAM 6" will make me feel better ;)

I have what looks like the exact same set up ordered. Waiting on a couple of parts to come in. My Best Buy guy says he can get the Kickers in the front door, but he’s not sure he could get the hideaway under the rear seat. We’ll see what he comes up with.

I recall a FB post by James at tech12 over the weekend that he found a good speaker that bolts into the front doors and sound much better than the factory JBL speakers, using the factory amp. When I installed the dynamat on the inside and outside of the door skins, it made the factory speakers sound better.

I will be anxiously waiting for your build. The guy said he has 30 years doing this and said he couldn’t make it happen. He stuck me with some low end Pioneers that I yanked out. He said something about the depth of the speaker not clearing the window when fully down so make sure yours does and please ask how he made it happen if it all works out.

He had no issue with the Hideaway under the seat though. You are going to like your system a lot! Mine did not come alive until I researched “speaker crossover” and used the settting on the Kenwood head unit. I was slightly disappointed until I got all the settings dialed in.

I hope so. There’s one adapter left to come in before I can schedule installation. I also have some bumpers getting powder coated right now. Pretty busy week!

Hurry up and wait then. Looks like it may be another week before they can get me in.

Is your hideaway bolted to the floor? I have Weathertech mats, and the rear one goes all the way under the seats. I may have to cut it so I can get it out.

All my parts came in, so I’ve been trying to get Best Buy on the phone for three days to get my appointment set up. Just kept being left on endless hold, never got through. Now this morning I have an email that they canceled my order because I didn’t pick it up.
Guess I’m going to have to go down there and figure it out.
