tonneau covers and deck rail system

well ive been trying to look for the switchblade cover, and others, and i keep getting the message its not compatible with the deck rail system. yet i see some trd pro trucks with these. Do i have to remove the deck rail system

 

I don't have the rail system but when I ordered my switchblade, I remember having a choice of rail or no rail. When I got it, it actually had 2 sets of hardware, one set for each type. But what's funny is, I installed it with the hardware meant for without the rail system and the cover kept falling off the tracks. I noticed the mounts for the rail system was just a bit wider so I tried those and it fit perfectly. Also, I have a DC with longer bed but since they make one for the crew cab and it's just the hardware that's different I can't imagine it wouldn't work.

One thing I was disappointed with the switchback was the space it took up. I think it says the canister is 8 inches but the cover doesn't retract all the way in and protrudes out another 2 inches. So when I load my dirt bike, the wheel hits it and makes it just short enough that I have to turn the bike slightly diagonally. My old American Roll cover on my old truck took up about 3 inches less. But it was also double the price.

 

I have a BakFlip VP with the factory bed rail system. I had to buy a kit from BakFlip to still use the bed rails. It just lowers the bed rails a little bit, everything functions properly, my swing case still fits under the lowered bed rail system.

 

Here's a pic. Actually looking at it, I don't see how it'll fit unless the mount bolts directly onto the rail itself. Those mounts are 2 pieces. Without the back piece, the front piece looks like it'll bolt directly on.

 

well i bit the bullet, and ordered the jackrabbit. and well see how it goes, i never got asked if i had rails or not. so if i have to remove the rails, or lower them, so be it..

i need to cover my bed...

 

with the jackrabbit you have to remove the rear rail, otherwise it doesn't really fit well...

im very pleased overall with the quality....
