Our 1 yr. old is a Dane/ English Mastiff. Nothing is safe! We can keep her occupied for a short time with a bully stick.

This is what we use with our Lab. He loves them. I use a saw and trim the sharp points down a bit, and grinds on them until they get pretty small and we take them so he doesn't choke. It is an awful sound of him grinding his teeth on them, but they definitely last longer than any toy we've tried.

Pigs hoofs, by a batch let them chew and eat them. Cheap, easier on teeth and last. Only downside is they stink.

I went to buy an antler for my dog and it was over 20 bucks. So we opted for the cow hip bone. My dog absolutely loves it. And can you believe she growled at me when I just asked her if I could see it LOL bitch! It’s filled with peanut butter flavor where the marrow would be.

my dog's not a big chewer but her favorite toy is the Kong ballistic "cookie" (it's a disc)... I buy a 3 pack and each lasts about a year before it's ripped

also... L.L. Bean dog beds - guaranteed for life... your life, so it should in theory last multiple dogs

My $.02. I have 4 larger dogs. One of them has incredible chewing power, is young, and likes to chew (catahoola).. We tried everything in the super tough toys... None of them lasted.. And if they did last very long, the dog wasn't interested anymore.. I discovered, sometimes it is better to have something that is ultra flexible instead of hard and durable... I had a softish plastic ball (hollow air filled).. that, because it was so flexible, the dog would chew on it, but the ball would give and not come apart.. Also the size of it made it hard for the dog to just bear down on it. It lasted quite a long time.

One odd find is that the dog loves to get a clear soda bottle. - the 16-19 ounce variety. He goes banbanas chewing on that thing until it is a flattened plastic pancake. I then pick it up for recycling.. He never gets any chunks of plastic off them, so I dont worry about him eating any plastic. The downside - its super noisy when he is playing with that thing.. hahaaa

We essentially gave up on trying to get things to last without being torn up. Instead we use shorter term chew ideas that we can replenish. I go to Costco, buy a package of the bully sticks, then cut them down to 6" sticks or something. For us it buys about 45 minutes.. :)

I have bought antler pieces off of ebay. You can get them by the pound. It is the best price I could find for them..

We too have a big black Kong. Had it for years. Both of mine love it. One is a 100 pound mix with a very hard mouth. Also, we keep 4-6 nylabones laying around. They're good for a couple of months. Even though they're 12, the vet says they have the teeth of 2 year old's. But they've also only ever been fed dry dog food.

Only problem with the big, black Kong is that when you handle it, you never know where it's going. Surprised it hasn't broken anything yet. It has hit my wife before and left a mark. :)

John I'm gonna give that nerf rope you that Lucas recommend. Don't think it stands a chance, but @ $ 12 not a big loss.

Yeah, our big dog likes those too. We fill it part way and use it for a fetch toy in the pool. After a couple of times, he'll take it somewhere and chew until it's flat. Same thing, never shredded.

A bit off topic since it's a fetch toy. He also likes the angry birds flying disc. This is when he was much younger, he can't do the surf anymore.DSC_2848.jpg DSC_2849.jpg

I was bored today and this subject came up. Oddly enough the orbee ball and the goughnuts came up in our search. Someone even mentioned the coke bottle idea though she used Gaterade bottles. Might have to try the bottle idea and get him one of those goughnuts.
