Guys please excuse me if this has been asked before. I did some searching but no luck. Can you tell me how to properly remove the chrome lettering from my truck without messing up the paint? I see a lot of you have done this and I like what I’m seeing. Thank you!

Use a heat gun or hot air from a hair dryer.

    Warm it up really well

Use some fishing line (heavy gauge) and work it back and forth in a sawing motion.

It should just come free, but if it doesn’t then get your heat gun after it again

If you have any questions feel free to ask

Edit: then use goo gone to remove the residual

Then use some goo gone to get off leftover residue.

And start with the SR5. It’s the smallest, easiest and good practice for the bigger ones.

Get yourself braided fishing line. Works best. I just did mine. Didn't need goo gone. Rolled the double stick tape off with my fingers, then used some Mcguires cleaner wax before putting the new badges on.

No reason you should keep it when you have a perfectly good truck to sink it in to :D

    hey a few quick questions,

goo gone can be found at home depot no?

what adhesive do you use to put the badges back on.

do most people just plastidip them black?

I have a platinum tundra that is black and im trying to take off all the chrome :)

You can find goo gone almost any hardware store, grocery store, wal mart, etc. I bought all black badges on ebay for like $80 I think. They came with double sided tape but it sucked. This is the best stuff for the job.

    3m double sided tape

I just pried them off with a slim scraper. They came right off. No heat required.

I plastidipped while on the truck. There are tons of videos on YouTube if you’re wanting to go that route. Much easier than trying to reposition the badges plumb

If you remove them, mark an edge on the left or right and bottom or top with tape so when you out back on you know where

I watched some videos last night of just spraying on the plastidip while its still on there. Will most likey go that route. They also plasti dipped the mirror caps and door handles but i dont think they were successful. Guess ill have to just go buy those color matched since i like they glossy finish. Thanks for everyone's help. pretty new to the forum

The mirror caps you should buy. They aren’t that expensive and will look MUCH better

I used overlays. At $100, it’s still cheaper to plastidip, but I feel the overlays look better. 286C5801-1E77-4B77-89B5-E0BEBCB1A454.jpg

You get 2 each Tundra, 4x4, 5.7 Vforce, and one front grill logo, I believe that would leave only one badge to plastidip. If you dip them all, I suggest that you lightly outline with an exacto knife before you peel.

The platinum doesn't have the iforce v8 badge...
I believe the size is different as well.
I kinda like my platinum badge but wish the word tundra wasn't shiny chrome. Would look better if it was the brushed look like the rest of the badge. I have thought about changing it, maybe a matte clear. Or maybe I'll take mine off since I took all the others off already, I don't wanna do it all black
