@AnonVet , I havent, although I am looking at making increasing this with the amount of area the wireless charging connects, in other words the entire tray, so it never disconnects. Sometimes it will disconnect when it slides around. This is about a 10% of the time issue. But somewhat annoying. If you or anyone comes up with better solutions let me know!

I agree that could be annoying, since I'm going to dive into this, i'll take a look at options. I have the luxury of time at my work and an endless amount of technology to use so i'll see what I can come up with.

Did mine yesterday. Wireless charging wont work with my case on and very touchy. Without my case the phone slides around and stops charging. Anyone try to add some type of grippy to the area to keep the phone from sliding? If that could be fixed, this mod would be golden!!

I was thinking of adding a min slip pad but I'm afraid then it won't be able to charge. When I did mine I mad it so the phone would charge best pushed all the way back on the tray area. Will move a little but probably only slide forward during heavy breaking.

As far as other charging with the case on...Maybe take a file or chisel and make that plastic underneath a little thinner but be careful. Also adding a piece of Styrofoam between the charger and cover trim that is thick enough to really hold it in place will help. You can also remove the top cover of the charging pad

Wonder if removing that top cover will help. I may try tomorrow! Thanks

It helped me immediately. Mine wouldn't work with case in either

MagMIMO has actually created the tech to extend the charging surface up to 4.5 cm away. they show a tablet charging inbetween 4.5 inches of cinderblock

That's one of the things I miss about my 16 Tacoma. I had to get a case for my iPhone 6 (20$) but it was fast charging

I am wanting to do a similar mod and I wanted to offer some some info I have worked out in case it helps others.. I havent dug into the console yet and done any cutting. I am not sure what the final distance from the pad to the phone will be in the end. Obviously it needs to be as close as possible. I have no agenda.. This is just the equipment I had available.

    My concerns:
I am concerned about the power of the charging plate. I dont want to install a charging plate only to find that it has difficulties charging from the distance to the phone and through the plastic layers (I have a samsung s8+ with spigen case) I have a couple of different qi chargers in my house and I picked up some others that seemed to have a larger charging distance (8mm is about the largest value I found)... Some say 5mm... most dont say anything at all. I have a Tronsmart WQ 10, Seneo SWC1, and a Choetech T513. One at a time I powered up the charging plates, placed a rubber mat I have (its rather thick and dense.. and measures 3/16" thick) The Tronsmart wouldnt connect. The Seneo would connect but only barely and if the phone was in the perfect spot. The Choetech was the only one that connected to the phone somewhat reliably.

I am also concerned about how forgiving the placement of the phone on the pad is. I placed the phone directly on the pads one by one and tested how forgiving they are. The Tronsmart (which is much smaller than I expected. ) Its about 2/3 the length of my S8+. It seemed a little picky about the placement. Once it is on the sweet spot it is fine. The Seneo was more forgiving.. I could plop my phone on it and if it is mostly centered on the pad.. it worked fine.. The Choetech has 3 coils and is the largest of the pads.. As expected, it is the most forgiving of the three.

So I guess the winner of the three is the Choetech. The size and shape of the pad would seem to fit the rectangular tray in the console the best too.

    I hope this helps.

I did this mod yesterday.. It was super simple.. took about an hour. If you are careful when trimming out the plastic splines to create the flat mounting surface, the edges of the splines (cut at an angle) can create a sort of hook that helps lock down the charger. Mine was locked in very well with just the splines.. but I still took steps to ensure it doesnt go anywhere. I stuck on a piece of Gorilla tape but I dont like the idea of tape long term. But the piece that we are mounting to is screwed in place with 6 screws down both sides. The middle screws are perfectly positioned in the middle on both sides. I took the middle screws out and ran a strap across the back of the charger and anchored it down by piercing the strap with the screws. Between the splines, the tape, the strap, the USB casing (the usb cable casing also was fed through a tight hole to plug into the charger), that thing isnt going anywhere!

It was an easy mod and quite nifty. I tested it over and over by just dropping my phone in the tray. It never failed to connect and begin charging.

Finally got the damn X phone. Have a wireless base with it. This will be installed soon in the truck.

Not sure what base I have, but if my phone is anywhere near it (and touching) it picks up the charge. Unfortunately it has a ridiculously bright blue light ring to indicate charging...Very annoying in the bedroom.

Now if we can just get the damn temps somewhere above zero...

How did you wire it in? Did you wire a USB outlet in the glovebox?

Not just used cigarette lighter adapter from my android charger . But I did separate the arm piece and run the wires between so it’s pretty much hidden.

Another perspective... Buy a Tzumi Hyper charge 10W charging pad and place it in the tray of your Toyota center console vault. Use 3M molding tape to secure pad to tray, drill hole through lip of tray and plug in DC plug on interior.

One of the first mods I have done that involved a more “DIY” aspect. Great mod. Thanks OP!

A coping saw works great to cut out the plastic on the under side... just an FYI!

I have to tear into my dash tomorrow and install my 2nd gen Phoenix HU, when I'm in there I have to take some measurements. Would like to find a charger to install below the magnets for my dash. I would have to find a small sized charger.

    Question
    I have a 2019 Toyota tundra crewmax.
Can you use the wireless charging while it is connected to the USB to link your for the Scout GPS, music play ect.

I have found that the phone charges very slowly if at all when it is linked via USB to my truck.

I did this on my limited yesterday. I used the choetech 3 coil. I also removed it from the case to get the coils closer. Have no issues at all changing through my case. Dont have to be picky about placement either.

The USB connection is a very slow charge. Sometimes if you're using several apps, like GPS, pandora, anything really, the phone will just barely maintain the same charge % as when you plugged it in. The wireless charger isn't very fast either, again barely can keep up if you have multiple apps running.
I added some extra quick charge 3.0 amp USB outlets and use a premium cord when I really need to charge my phone up well

    Thanks,
Upon further research I found out that the USB dash connection primary function is for a data link. It provides a very small amount of power to your device. The wireless charging mod should fix the problem. I will also use the high output USB mod alas well. I will update the thread when all is complete.

Thanks to everyone for all of the advice I will keep you posted.

    Nothing but good stuff.
Just finished this mod today with the Cheotech charger....works amazing. I left the front and back row of plastic for support, seemed to lock the charger in place better to me.
