This would be the right way to do it.

Me, I'd find a hot rod shop to do the metal work. Or an old school hot rodder that does his own metal work. Doing patch panels is a daily thing for those guys.

Take it to the paint shop after you get it back from the hot rodder.

Call me a purist because I like my tailgate stamp. I haven’t decided if I want to put inserts in though. My wife told me I should do red white blue. I kind a like it clean with nothing. I also left all my badging on. I came from the era of everyone stripping anything to do with the car manufacturer logos. So I like to be different and leave them LOL. I did remove the Toyota emblem off of the wheel caps in place with TRD.

I also like my TRD off-road sticker on the side of the bed for the color splash, except they are shitty stickers. Also they are not even on each side of the bed which bothers me. I may look into a more quality custom sticker that is similar to the stock one.

I guess I’m weird I also like the Toyota in the tailgate handle. It looks kind of old school.

Totally agree. My problem with the letter on most vehicles is how it bothers me when I'm waxing. On my wife's Explorer Sport the letters on the hood have very sharp edges, that it took blood from me one day, then I just removed them. Letters just screw up my ability to wax. The imprint on the Tundra now, well no complaints with that. I don't own one yet though.

I like the how subtle the bed stamp on my blue truck. That is the only thing left other than the front emblem(painted black) that identifies my truck.

I am by no means a auto body expert but i think the easy way to remove it would be to cut it out and replace it with a slightly overlaping piece on the inside and bond it with Lord Fusor. I'm pretty sure all trucks now are are bonded with epoxy, well at least the beds are. As i remember to replace a bed side you have to heat the epoxy to around 300° and start prying till the boxside comes off. Its some very strong stuff, paintable and would be ideal for attaching custom brackets, ect.

To be fair that is no different then having a TRD Pro grille, it is kind of in your face as well. No offense to those that have them, just saying.

My opinion is that this is definately not going to be worth it.

Unless you shave the handle while your at it for a fully clean tailgate.

So do I, and mine has the chromed letters inserted. The chrome is not the real shiny kind, more like a titanium look and breaks things up nicely.
