Hey....So, I'm seeing all you guys and gals accenting you tailgate stamp. Am I the only one who hates it and wants it completely gone? Don't think a 2ND gen tailgate would work or look right. Who else feels me here. If anyone has done this, please post up some pictures. This is on my list for 2018

I with you there...don't particularly like letters stuck in the tailgate stamp. I personally like it subdued. To each their own...its not for me.

I wasn't a fan of them at first, but now they don't bother me much. If I had one, I definitely wouldn't accent it. The TOYOTA tailgate handle would have to go though, I really don't like that.

I read this whole 'using the whole tailgate for branding', is coming to all trucks. At which point it will definitely become cool to mod by deleting all branding. Glad our Tundra stamp is isolated-- not across the entire width of the tailgate like the Tacomas. But that is what I've read is coming.

I agree with you also on the handle but, that's where Toyota put the reverse camera. Not much you can do about that

If you really don't like the stamp a body shop can take it and repaint your tailgate. Probably won't be cheap though. I like mine and have the chrome letters, Makes it foe a nice contrast.

Post up what you find for pricing.

This might cost more than a new tailgate.

My plan was to do the filler myself and sand then have the body shop paint it. Hope it's not to bad. I did all the body work on an old CJ7 I used to own.

I would say the body shop option is your only bet.

I don't really mind it, but I haven't put any decals in there to make it stand out.

I'd hate to use body filler that deep, especially in that area for the letters... Begging to get cracks in it with time.

If I were considering it, I'd try to either weld in a replacement panel or try to heat/hammer it back if you can get good enough access to the back side and the fill or lead what's left

Back in the day most trucks came with tailgate branding. What goes around comes around again sooner or later. Later is here.....

Yeah....I was thinking the same thing. I'll talk with my body work specialist this spring and maybe figure something out. If it's going to be any sort of issue I just won't do it. Just love that de badged 2ND gen tailgate look

I am obviously in the minority, I like the stamp. I also have it on the side since I have a PRO. I have vinyl inlays in all of them

With you although my 07 predates the stamp. I think the Tundra stamp looks fine as is or with inlays.

Not sure why I didn't think about this earlier but, what would you guys think about a color matched vinyl wrap? That would cover it. Would it last? How long?

The vinyl wrap would not cover gaps like that. It would conform to the stamp.

I had a small, but noticeable dent in my tailgate.

It cost 400 to fix. I’m going to guess this will cost 750-900.00 with paint.

What if a filler was used in this aspect. If the filler eventually cracked would that effect the wrap. Don't know much about the long term with wrap

@coosbaybaker would be more qualified to answer these questions and most likely could give you all a no BS assessment of what this might cost.

From what I have learned, body filler over a dime thick is just waiting to crack. I’m no professional at paint and body work, so again, coosbaybaker should be able to answer all these questions with detailed answers.

If the letters are chrome, people dip them black. If they were black they’d probably remove them. People stick inlays into the stamp. If it came with inlays, everyone would probably remove them. Now you want to get rid of the stamp??? o_O I think too many people are concerned with being different rather than what actually looks good. I personally think the Tundra stamp and the TRD Pro stamps look great. Subtle and clean. Just be glad we don’t have this ridiculousness...

The handle itself might be the same as a 2nd Gen. There is a 3rd Gen guy on here who grinded his handle letters off, prepped and painted the whole handle assembly. This is on my list as well, except I'm going to get a body shop to do it.

    Agreed.

Now I do really like the Pro stamp on the side of the bed. That looks good.

No matter what Toyota does, people will always mod their truck. That's the fun part, right?

Personally, I like the stamped letters, but I don't like them enough to have it done to my 2nd gen tailgate. If mine were a 3rd gen, I would leave them (without inserts though).

If you want to fill the letters I think you'll need to cover the area with something like 4oz. fiberglass. I'd do this even with the vinyl wrap 'cause if it cracks ( more correctly, when it cracks) it'll telegraph through the vinyl.
If I were going to remove the stamp I'd strip the tail gate, fill the letters with an epoxy based filler and cover the entire thing with 4 or 6 oz. cloth and epoxy.
I'm interested to hear what @coosbaybaker would recommend.

I totally agree here. I, actually like it. But if I didn't, I'd have a body shop cut it out, and use a patch panel. I would never put that much bondo in it. It will definitely crack after a little while.
