looking into purchasing an aftermarket alarm/remote start, anyone have any recommendations for the 2018 tundra models, can’t seem to find any for the 2018 models, if you can post model # and cost for set up that would be appreciated, thank you

I actually talked to the guy from Tech12Volt and he told me that the Fortin EVO One in his son's 2018 Tundra works with the OEM key but others (with 2018's) didn't. I don't understand why but obviously it is still a hit and miss. The price is good and the installation with the T-harness doesn't look to awfully difficult. I was reading somewhere here where a member installed one (might have been iHacker) and if I remember correctly his is working just fine.

For the ones not working on 2018 Probably they forget something when flashing the unit, if the guy at tech12volt said it work then it should be, they flash the unit for your specific vehicle, I recommend to buy the flasher tool to keep your fortin evo updated.

I still like to know when Toyota offers an OEM remote start kit for the 2018 and if they will program so it doesn't kill the engine when you open the door.

Totally, seems silly to have the engine start and stop when the door opens. Just set it up like all the other after market remote starts where you have to put in your key, turn it to a certain point and put your foot on the brake.

I think everybody agrees with that assessment, hopefully Toyota is listening.

I would/will once I know for sure that it will work (start and open doors while running) with my existing remote key, I don't want to use an additional fob. trust me, I much rather spend 200.00 vs. 500 for the OEM version. I can install it myself.

I have an evo one on my other car. 2015 Camry w H key. So if it works on that I’m sure it will work on the tundra. Maybe they haven’t released the firmware yet.

Remote start is done. 3x lock is working to start the truck. It’s an compustar remote starter using an idatalink blade module. The only downside is that the factory fob will not unlock the door when it’s running so I will have to use the key....but I’m ok with that...seems like a factory Toyota thing to render the fob inoperative once the vehicle is started remotely.

My Evo One should be in my mailbox today or tomorrow. From what I've heard, some Tundras will unlock with the remote while running, some won't. Not sure if it's a roll of the dice, or if different trim levels are wired differently. I figure I need the key in my hand either way...needs to go into the ignition. It sure will be nice to get into a warm truck when I leave my cabin!

Are you doing a self-install and is yours pre-programed for your truck? I know, the seller on eBay send them out programed for your specific vehicle.

    Keep us updated.

There’s a lot of options to turn ON/OFF In the flashing tool software, if someone is having problems of some sort like the mentioned in your post should be something forgotten to select. That’s why I recommend to buy the flashing tool is cost around $40-$45 and is really useful to have it on hand to keep the evo updated.

At some point I considered the option to sell the Fortin EVO One kit with all the unused wires removed and flashed for specific truck of course for less than tech12volt suggested price but parts became more expensive so this never get accomplished, now I lost contact with my parts supplier.

Did you get your remote start installed and working? Also, which T-harness did you use and did you get separate key fobs?

    Thanks.

I’m going with compustar pro t11. 3 mile range, waterproof, can setup anything with it.

Got it all up and running. I used factory remotes. One out of maybe 10 times, the alarm goes off when I trigger the remote start. The trick seems to be to hit lock once (if the truck's not locked) and give it a second or two before hitting the 3 lock sequence to activate the start. I'm still getting used to it. It will be easier to confirm start from a distance when I have my new exhaust system on.

Thanks for the reply, did you use a T-harness?

Also, I guess that is one way to have a 2-way remote.....just add a loud exhaust.:)
