I know that at approx 1500 rpm and up the VVTi keeps the torque band at 70% and higher as you go up in RPM to a point. To me the torque specs are the most important aspect of this engine. Especially at low end . Add the 4:3 to 1 gear in rear and your'e getting off the line lickity split.(For the 2WD=add some Mickey Thompson slicks, locker, SC=fun) Want to add that the service tech also said to give the ECU a couple hundred miles to catch up after my reflash.

It's been over 1000 miles since the update and truck still not right. It always used to gear down - u felt it- when u put on breaks and now it doesn't do that either, and I liked that, felt like it was easier on the brakes!! Sluggish power and sluggish gear changing.

If that doesn't work , take it back to the dealer and tell them you are not a happy camper.

Are your driving habits any different than they were prior to the update?

Give it two days to a week. if it doesnt take it to the dealer make sure nothing happened during the update. See if the tech can maybe pin point it.

I tried unhooking the battery cable and waited for about 1 hour then drove it. I did not notice a difference. Do u think they can put it on the computer and tell something is wrong or since the update how will they figure it out?

Give the ecm time to relearn everything. Give it till thursday. By friday take it to the dealer and see if the tech can find the problem.

Unlikely, I suspect that it would have to be giving you a Check Engine Light for them to say that something was amiss. I don't think that the Engine Control Unit keeps a long term log of all the happenings of the vehicle for more than just a few seconds, and in that case, for the purpose of knowing what was going on just prior to an accident. With an issue as relatively intangible as what you describe, it's going to be a hard sell at the dealership. For example, if you had test data, like acceleration times over a given distance from before and after the ECU update you would just wave that data in their face and tell them they'd better have it sorted by the time you get back from the restroom. If you can think of something akin to my example, then you'll have something more to work with in an attempt to get back the truck you had before.

I think that Mike was right. I Gave the truck more time and it seems to be getting better. It is back to gearing down and feeling more peppy. I will keep paying attn but I think the ecm is relearning the drive pattern. Thanks Mike-tread lightly

Well I am a little late to this convo but here is my .02.....I own a 2012 tundra and a 2013 Prius. For those about to laugh....you should get familiar with what the Prius can actually do! Sooo toyota initiated a recall for the Prius for a ecm update because a regulator of sorts can get too hot and damage itself. After talking with a good friend that is considered a top guy at a yota-ship....I learned that the update essentially de-tuned the car. Most don't know this but the Prius is a pocket rocket!! I have many suspension upgrades and seriously this thing now drives like a Porsche! Anyway....I think that Toyota is definitely trying to correct a legitimate problem but I definitely want to learn more about what they are actually covering up or repairing. And for the Colorado guys...Maurice at Stevenson west is my guy
