OK PC gamer types. My son wants to start participating in an online game called iRacing. I got him a steering wheel and stand, but can't figure out what kind of gaming PC I should buy. No idea how long he'll be interested in this (loves NASCAR) so I don't want to spend too much at the same time I want to get him a dedicated PC that does a good job and lets him enjoy the experience without breaking the bank. Suggestions? TYIA

I'm not a gamer. But gonna chime in because I've been doing a ton of research looking for a gaming system for my son.

I've pretty much decided to get a "gaming computer" from Costco (really, the only thing I've found that differentiates a fast computer with a capable graphics card and tons of memory from a "gaming" computer is red keyboard lighting that doesn't mess up your visual acuity. Costco has options including systems with the red lighting.

I have no doubt you're about to get great advice from actual gamers, and I'll be reading along to learn with you. But, for the reasons you said (gift, for a kid, not sure how long he interests will last), seems Costco offers excellent options.

If he sticks with it, I plan to hook my son up with buddies who know more than I do, to build his next one....

Nah, no gamer here. Building this box with dual processors for editing the 4K video from my drone.
The dual video cards will be for the "gee whiz" factor though ;)

How big is the budget? ;)
Here's a ready-made box that an actual gamer friend told me is "decent", for a reasonable price:

That is probably the type of PC I would buy, but I really don't want to spend more than $700.:playball:

    @Masshole
I have no idea what iracing is, but i looked up the minimum requirements and they dont look bad at all:
Here are the iRacing system requirements (minimum)
    • CPU: Intel Core i3, i5, i7 or better, or AMD Bulldozer or better
    • CPU SPEED: Info
    • RAM: 8 GB
    • OS: Windows 7 SP 1, 8.1, 10 64-bit
    • VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce 2xx series or better / AMD 5xxx series or better / Intel HD Graphics 4200+ or better with 1 GB dedicated video memory
    • SOUND CARD: Yes
    • FREE DISK SPACE: 10 GB
    Rough buid:
i5 7600 (dont bother getting "k" variant), it comes with a stock cpu cooler $200
    Asus z270-a mobo $150
    nvidia 1060 3gb $215
    500w psu $50
240gb ssd $75 (you can add a 2tb hdd later)
    8gb ram $90
Windows 10 $5 (you can buy a windows key on ebay for $5)
Still need keyboard, mouse, speakers/headphones, maybe a wireless card.

Thats $85 over budget without a case. You can probably shop around and get better prices, those were just quick Amazon searches. That would be a good computer that will last a while. You could probably shave some $ by: going with an AMD cpu/mobo (i've always bought intel), and getting a cheaper graphics card like a 960 or a 1050ti.

Not exactly a purchase but a friend sent me this 9er receiver plug thingy and it arrived today.

He had a Tundra and sold it because his boss bought him some fancy Lincoln SUV (she didn't like riding in the Tundra, WTH).

Just bought and installed TRD rear sway bar. Took about 45 minutes. Not bad for an old fart. Boy, sure took care of the inherent understeer. Not driving the Queen Mary II anymore. More like a Coast Guard cutter now. Well worth the price IMO.

The Sequoia front sway bar adds just a little bit more to that, and is even cheaper.
