I doubt VW will be going anywhere. They will handle this and go on.

    Let's hope that's the case.

They have identified an additional 2.8 million cars with the smog-cheating software in Europe.

Their stock has plummeted 40% since this all started.

It's going to be a big hit to repair every vehicle AND the pending class action lawsuits that will inevitably be filed.

When I was growing up, my family had mostly GMs and they have been pretty reliable. (Their quality was definitely better than what has become recently.)

We had one VW and it was piece of $hit. It broke down quite frequently and we had to pay thousands of dollars in repairs. This probably is the reason why none of my siblings ever owned a VW. My father finally gave up and sold the dang thing. When I shop for a new vehicles, VW is one brand I don't even look at. It's not nice to gloat, but . . . :D

I've gotten a few letters in the mail from VW. one offering 120% of the bluebook value (even for the TDI's) and a free oil change just for bringing it in. The other was an auto-penned apology for "violating my trust"

I've come to realize that if anything, the emissions "scandal" has only given me more faith in the engineering at VW. It's so ingenious that they even thought of how to cheat the system that I can confidently say that they are really trying their best to get you the most performance they can. The saying goes "if you're not cheating, you're not trying".

If these companies would put that much effort into developing a better product.... Wouldn't that be something?

VW is worth bazillions and this will only be a blip on the radar when all is said and done. (Also with the loonies running things here and in Germany, "VW is too big to fail")

Ehh, same thing in my book. They did get the higher MPG&Power. I found a flash from APR tuning that if I am somehow forced to dumb the car down, I will just bring it back to life!

Yeah, I agree but the cost to develop the cheat was probably minimal compared to the cost to force extra MPG out of an engine.

People died running Firestones and V dud only cheated smog regs. Huge lawsuits for Firestone and Firestone survived although rep never fully recovered.

The folks running VW probably already have a "set aside account" to cover costs when/if ever caught cheating. "Cheat to win". :cookiemonster:

I think i received one from a lawyer as well. I'm going to wait and see what VW are going to do before I really get concerned with all that myself.

The Wilderness only had problems on the Explorer and Ford in an effort to reduce roll over recommended inflating them to 26 PSI causing the tire to overheat. I new had a '98 Explorer as a company vehicle and on the drive home I could tell they were under inflated with the rear end floating around. I kept them inflated to 35 PSI and the tires lasted almost 100,000 miles

Some history on this: The problem involved a “quite complex interaction” of the tires design, manufacture and loading conditions on the Ford Explorer.
