"Tundra is a tried and proven vehicle, but Toyota must look beyond what it's offering today to have a much more modern, perhaps hybrid, Tundra or no Tundra by 2020."

    https://www.torquenews.com/1/predic...dra-unless-improved-not-sure-where-its-headed

I'm happy with tried and true. While more fuel efficiency would be nice, I wouldn't trade it for more technology and gadgets. I like the simplicity of my Tundra . . . just drive it, baby!

Im with you on the no more gadgets. I feel my 17 has too many nannies and I didn't go for the extra gadgets just a SR5. I want nothing to do with more electrical crap and if I could I would rid my truck of traction control.

I thought it was rumored that a new design was coming in 2019? I know there were rumors of a hybrid tacoma http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/...ng-out-the-idea-of-a-hybrid-pickup-truck.html

For me, I bought (my second) Tundra because it is rock solid and never fails. That's the ticket for me.. I don't go in for a lot of the gadgetry.. but I will say, there are some things that had me scratching my head - no pull handle on drivers side, 4 cig lighter receptacles in the cab, one USB data port and its not in a hidden area like the console.. but obviously not deal breakers..

One thing I read is for the new TRD pro, toyota contract with Bilstein coming to an end and they were in talks with King. That would be awesome if true.

The Tundra isn’t in the top four in the sales department in the half tons. The Titan isn’t pictured as well. What is pictured is the top sellers.

Funny, I think the trailer brake issue is funny as well. I set mine up differently than some, but it isn’t rocket science.

I don’t think they are Raptor fanboys. Please list a factory truck that does compare to the Raptor please........

    I’ll wait.

How many of those 115,489 Tundras sold will outlast every other truck sold on that list? Probably ninetieth percentile.

The Raptor is what it is. It can’t tow shit. Kinda like my GMC. It can haul a lot of shit, but surely is slow in the off road sections. Purpose built.

Roman does try and throw the Raptor in, and it gets schooled often. I take my buddies tuned Raptor on occasion and it is a flippen blast. Would I own one? Nooope.

The article brings up some good points.
I'm sure Toyota will introduce a smaller motor similar to what was done in the Tacoma.

Honestly I bet the could mate the current engine to an 8 speed and probably squeeze a few more mpgs out of the engine.

Somewhere in Japan there is a new engine that has been running nonstop at 9000rpms since 2016 and when it gives out they will decide if it is good enough to update the Tundra. If not. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I have heard that from some people on the EB trucks. 4 close friends or family members have EB trucks without any real issues. Some of them with over 100k miles.
I personally like the concept of a boosted tow rig, but I would have rather seen 3-4 psi going to a 5.0L motor. Could you imagine that? My buddy has a Mustang with the Rousch 2nd Stage huffer on it and it is Fuuuunnn to drive.

I stand by what I have always said, you just can’t get a better 1/2 ton truck than the Tundra, period.

I was hoping our inside Toyota Tundra engineer had some comments on this.

    Thanks for closing that door.

I couldn't agree with you more. It wouldn't be to hard to increase the MPG's for the Tundra: 8-speed transmission, electric cooling fan, electric power steering and a combination of port and direct injection. If Toyota would do all that it will probably rated 16/20 MPG. I hope they don't change the appearance to much with the next model.

Also, this is my first Tundra and I waited purposely for the 2018 because I do like the "nannies", I know they not for everyone but they work for me and I had them on my last two trucks and wouldn't want anothet truck without them.

They should definitely do more to compete on the mileage numbers. But if they change the motor, I hope they don’t screw it up like they did the Tacoma.

Exactly what I meant. I have a feeling the next generation Tundra is going to blow the competition away and make a new standard for the future.

I have a feeling hybrid or Cell fuel vehicle.

One of the biggest reasons I bought a tundra was for the tried and proven reliability that they have. they are great looking truck and have the best resale of any of them.

Toyota can and should keep the 5.7L with just some peripheral changes as I mentioned and go to an 8-speed (which they already have on the shelf). The Nissan Titan used to get shitty gas mileage; that has changed now with just a few changes made. It isn't that hard.

I liked my RAM but I swear every oil change had a recall that had to fix a ton...Glad to be a new Tundra owner, even though I can’t pass a gas station
