Need help getting Stabil residue off paint.

Long story short, I was adding Stabil to fuel cans on my tailgate. I spilled some, and it ran down the lip and down the face of the tailgate a bit. After going through the car wash, there is still a residue mark and feel on the paint. What's the best way to remove this in the least harmful manner?

IMO automated car wash don't really clean tailgates very well. I would try to wash it manually first.

 

@coosbaybaker - what says the body and paint pro?

 

Go to a bodyshop and ask them to hit it with wax and grease remover

 

They might lightly hit it with lacquer thinner.... your paint is hardened and cured of course so the lacquer thinner with very light application will not hurt it

 

I find for my white paint when something stains it I hit it with a little Maguires cleaner wax. It seems to do the trick. Whatever you do start with the least aggressive, then work your way up.

 

I used paint thinner when I was a detailer.. just some on a tshirt and some elbow grease, should get it off.

we had cars come in after hitting the little yellow parking lot poles, thinner got the yellow pain off no problem. I don't recommend using a lot, its paint thinner lol

 

It feels a little gritty.

 

I believe a thinner would get that off pretty easy, but im no expert.

 

Is it actually residue or did it interact with the clear coat and damage it?

 

Thanks, everyone. A light spray down with water and lightly scrubbing with automotive soap got it out easily. I guess it looked a lot worse than it really was.
