Welcome Forrest. (Yeah, I just said that out loud in the Tom Hanks Forrest Gump voice),and my wife looks at me like I’m an idiot. (Guess what her Forrest Gump movie name is? Lol)

Most people will be more than happy with a true LS rear differential, at more than half the cost and no more maintenance.

@TRD15559 just ordered lockers and he’s actually the first person I’ve seen on this forum get them. Hopefully he lets us know how it goes. They’re about $7000 down on my list so it’ll be a little bit before I get ‘em.

I guess the real question here is OP:

What kind of off-roading do you want to do?

What are your limits on a $38K dollar (most likely daily driver) vehicle?

In my limited off-roading experience, the more capable you make a vehicle off-road, you sacrifice on road performance.

A true locker, such as the only one offered for a Tundra is an ARB. Great factory like performance on the pavement, bad ass off-road performance at the flick of a switch (if all things are working, solenoid, wiring, air lines, pump, o-rings good, etc). Now this bad ass locker is worthless on the street, towing, and would even use cation in a racing setting.

Now if you do mild off-roading, some sand, limited technical (like rock crawling), mud, snow, loaded bed/towing, this is the way to go.

    Getting there
Not being too familiar with these rear ends, they seem to be pretty close to a 9 inch since they have a removable pumpkin. Is that a correct assumption?

That being said what lockers are out there for these? Is there a Detroit style locker or air locker? While not practical for the street are there mini and full spools also? Is there a floater kit out there with some heavy duty chromoly or other beefed up floater axles?

The Toyota axle is very similar to a 9” design, which has a removable 3rd member.

The only locker available now for the 10.5 rear axle is ARB. Limited slip is your only other option.

I pretty sure there isn’t a spool setup, but they are easy to make or weld spider gears. These kinds of lockers just suck. I have all mechanical loCkers on my Jeep that are like a Detroit locker and will disengage.

To my knowledge there isn’t a full floater kit available, but you can make a FF axle.
