I have a fishing kayak that I really enjoy heading out to the lake on. I usually slide it into the bed, lift the back end, and close the tailgate. The kayak is nose into the corner of the bed, and I put a ratchet tie-down across the back to keep it tightly in place. My kayak weighs about 70 lbs, and my back is not so good. Trying to get it onto the roof would be difficult at best.
Does anyone have any better ways to haul a fishing kayak?

I think there are some trailer hitch extenders that could be a solution for ya.

I just put my kayak in the bed without closing the tailgate, and strap it across the carrying handles. I do have a bed extender, but only use that when I'm carrying two kayaks.

    For comparison, I have a 13.5' kayak and a 5.5' bed

I use this bed extender Boonedox T-Bone Bed Extender. It's curved so there is less chance of the extender scraping on the ground when pulling in or out of a driveway. it works well for me with 2 Hobie Outback Kayaks.

I've been doing it almost this same way. Except, I leave the tailgate down so the hatch can close. We take the bikes, to stash down river and they just lay on top of the boats-with the wheels off.
