    Hi everyone

I'm a die hard GM guy who's getting tired of the constant GM wiring g and driveline issues.

Currently I'm running an 05 avalanche z71 full load.

After yet another $500 transfercase actuator failed on my avalanche my wife an I decided to go truck shopping. I love GMS but I'm always fixing them and I'm tired of it.

We really weren't impressed after test driving ford's and chevys, the rams are nice but the typical ram rust scares the crap out of me. Rams rust out so fast up here in Canada. I tend to keep my vehicles and I maintain them buy the book.

My brother in law works for a Toyota dealership and he said we should test drive some used tundras.

He found us an 08 limited crew max

It has 110k miles or so. It's 2 owner and he found the last 7 years it's been serviced at his dealership. It's very mint, interior looks new, there's 1 scuff on the tailgate and a couple stone chips on the bumper. Only issue is the power lumbars are a little lazy, they don't inflate very well. Not sure if this is common on Toyotas?

At first an 08 seemed too old compared to what we've been looking at. And 110k miles is up there. But we went and test drove it back to back with a '15 f150 fx4 and an '15 ram bighorn.

The tundra blew us out if the water!!

It felt tighter, was quieter and smoother then either the ram or ford.

So I'm wondering are all tundras that we'll built that they literally can go head to head with a 2 year old American truck and still be nicer?

Is 110k miles getting up there for a tundra or would that not bother you with the service history?

The truck is listed at like 13k US but we can have a discount on it cause my brother in law is an employee.

It's well within our budget actually below our budget and really it's the nicest truck we've test drove.

What do you guys think? Buy it aND enjoy or maybe wait for a newer one? Theres lots if tundras for sale but none are crew maxes and none are limiteds.

I wouldn't be concerned about the mileage if it has been maintained properly. Most Tundra's (Toyota's in general) go twice that mileage without any problems. Sounds like you found the truck you like the best!!

Yes, Tundras are that well built. 110 K is just getting broken in IMO. You've heard of the recent Million mile Tundra? With the one you're looking at, check to see that the serpentine belt has been replaced. That was the only issue I had on my "07. I wasn't really an issue, just maintenance until the knuckle heads at my local dealership got hold of it. They installed it wrong......twice.

I still see my first Tundra, an "01, driving around town and looking really good.

Do it. You won't be sorry. Your first impression will continue each time you drive it. I love my 2nd Gen. Plus, you can use the rest of your budget for mods. :D

once you go Toyota you will never look back. They last forever. Also with your brother in law working for Toyota, you should have no issues being taken care of in the event you have any issues  sounds like a win win all the way around.

Huge upgrade from that avalanche. I will say look to see if the AIP(air injection pump or pumps) have been replaced. Major issue with the 2nd Gens. There covering up 10 years/150k. I have a 08 myself and mine went @62k. Welcome from Obx. Good luck with your search

Yep 5.7, crew max, 4x4, leather, sunroof, nav, tonneau cover, tow pacakge and back up camera. I think it has every option you could get.

They even put 4 brand new tires on it. I'd probably swap those for a set of duratracs as I love duratracs.

Other then that it has everything I'd want.

Everything works great except the power lumbars. I'm sure I could sort those out.

As for the AIP, I'm not sure if they have been done. My guess it they have as in this climate those pumps don't last going through winters.

If I changed them myself I wonder what the cost would be? I pulled wrenches for many years so I have a scan tool and all the tools needed to do darn near any repair. Only thing I don't do is transmissions but I've rarely seen anyone mention tundras having bad transmissions.

Toyota extended AIP warranty to 10 years/ 150K from 1st date the truck was sold so you might still have it covered til end of 2018 or even 2019 if your truck was sold early 2009.

Tinman, here's some info on the bypass kit. Just in case down the road when Toyota will not cover it.

Well then that takes the worry out of that problem.

My wife used to drive a 2006 Chevy trailblazer and that had known AIP issues also. Of course at 100,000 km the pump failed. I managed to trace the problem back to a broken wire in the harness

That one wasn't fun to work on as it was mounted to the drivers side frame rail mid chassis.

    Thanks for the link.

That's actually a top reason I want the crewmax.

My brother is 6'6" and I'm 6'3". My wife and I travel with him often and he really doesn't fit in the back of most crew cabs. My avalanche is tight for him that's for sure.

    Well I bought that truck!!

Paid just over 13k US for it which I'd say is a great deal!!

    [IMG][IMG]

Its super super clean inside and out.

Got a few issues to sort out like the tailgate won't open. I'm guessing it's frozen shut as they detailed it and then left it outside. Temps have been -15c here for the last week.

I'm also one if the lucky folks who habe a rear seat that won't recline. Oh well I'm sure I'll sort that out as time permits.

All in all my wife and I are very happy with it.

So glad I was open minded enough to shop across all brands and find out which one was best.

So is there a way to remove the AIP to get better fuel mileage & HP?? I will do a search. I did see the bypass kit for older trucks.
