Your dad gets a pass. I used to own a 1966 Nova and a 1971 Malibu so I love classic muscle and classic trucks. Plus, that's when GM built good stuff. Lots of potential and personalization with those old trucks. Hope you get it.

Forgot where I heard this, but "the Tundra could be hand crafted by God and the GM and Chevy boys would still hate it because it wears a Toyota badge..."

I come from a long line of Toyotas. My family has had a 4Runner, a Camry, a Corolla, an SR5 pickup, a couple Previas, a couple of the 80s vans, a Tacoma, and another 4Runner. Now I drive a Tundra and my wife drives a 4Runner. There are more Toyotas on her side of the family too.

Hahaha it's Toyotas fault for not building a diesel tow machine. Still wish they'd cash in on that portion of the market in the US.

Once upon a time GM decided to cash in on the diesel car market. Look how that turned out. I'm betting Toyota is waiting until they can do it right, and not just shove something out the door.

We are now a Toyota family. Love the wife’s Highlander, so decided to order an ‘18 Tundra after having 5 straight Silverados. Love the 5.3 vortec, but the trucks just nickel & dime me to death...

Been a gm guy my whole life just like my father and honesty had absolutely no reason to switch, they have always been great to me. Newest I ever had was an 06 Silverado though and sold it with about 110k but it never had a single issue and none of my other gm trucks did either. I still have a 96 z71 I daily drive to work with 206k on it and it runs amazing, I drove it from California to New Hampshire and back just a few months ago. I was just interested in the tundra and the reliability that comes with it and was scared of buying a new gen Silverado. This tundra I have now will be the deciding factor whether I buy a newer tundra in 2 years or go back to gm. No complaints so far

I was also a GM guy for many years and loved my 2001 Silverado. I sold it and got a 2001 Tundra, but then when it reached 125,000 miles, decided I needed a new truck (not really "needed", but "wanted") and looked at the new, larger sized trucks. Ended up with a 2010 Silverado and thought the new higher gas mileage technology was a great idea, until I had it for a while and she started using oil. GMs cylinder deactivation caused higher than normal oil consumption. While the truck was at the dealer for one of its many service visits, I saw a new 2014 Silverado and traded in my 2010 (got what I paid for it on the trade). Well, the 2014 was even worse...6 recalls and 5 software "calibrations" in 2 years which were all major issues (driver's seat belt could break, brake lines not sufficiently torqued, LEDs around HVAC control panel not installed, and many more), but the final straw was when the trailer hitch platform recall was announced. Supposed to be a critical item and was told not to tow because the trailer hitch could actually break under load, and of course I could loose the load. Service manager told me they were on backorder, but I found out they used their allotment for trucks on the lot before any of their current owners. While I understand their desire to sell the new trucks, 3 months went by and still no ETA. I ended up trading in the 2014 Silverado on the Tundra, and am happy that I did. Only 1 recall in 20 months of ownership (rear bumper) and asked the dealer to update my integrated trailer controller software for the latest that I found out about on this forum. Its the best truck I've ever owned!
Sorry for the long note, but wanted to share. My 2001 Silverado was certainly a better quality truck than the 2010 or 2014. My son also had a 2011 Silverado and is now driving a 2016 Tacoma after a bad experience with the Silverado. GM just does not have the quality it used to IMHO.

We're a huge Toyota family starting with the grandparents in the 70's who had a baby-blue, 4-door Cressida with an in-line 6 cylinder. They drove the snot out if and gave it to their daughter who also drove the crap out of it before giving it HER daughter and it had close to 280,000 miles before succumbing to the salted roads in Maine. (Rusted out)

Our in-laws and outlaws (and us) have/had T100's, Tundras, Rav4's, Corollas, Avalons, Tacos, Prius, and Land Cruiser. We're the first to own a Hybrid (2017 Prius 2) and it's amazing...getting 58-65 mpg at every fill-up.

My commuter, POS car, is a 2013 Scion iQ and I've already got almost 60,000 on her. I first saw the Toyota iQ's while in Europe a few years back and wanted one so I got one and removed the FUGLY external Scion badges and replaced them with Toyota. (And also added new badge "Size Matters" which gets a few laughs)

I’ve heard a lot of stories like this about the 07+ silverados it seems, that’s what scared me about buying one. I was never a fan of the cylinder deactivation idea but even the generation before those had issues. I’m really leaning towards buying a used trd pro in a few years and keeping it for 6-8 years rather then risk it with a new Silverado or Sierra. I love my tundra now

Me too. Had 5 mid-70s model trucks in my 20s, transitioned into a 2010 F150, then 2013 F150 Lariat, started dating a blonde Toyota sales girl and thus started my conversion to the dark side lol I'm now on my 2nd Tundra.

Didn't really think about it until I read the OP and realized between me and my dad we've owned a good number of Yotas. 92 4runner, 06 Tundra, 07 FJ cruiser, 13 4runner, 17 Tundra.

    We're mostly a Toyota family.

My parent used to have a 1990 Toyota 4Runner Hilux, right hand drive, 5spd, disel 4x4 they imported from Japan. Now they have a 2005 Tundra double cab.

My first truck was a 1994 Toyota pickup 4x4 extended cab. Now I have a 2005 Tundra double cab like my parent's but with less than half the mileage on it. My girlfriend wants a RAV4. My brother has an early 2000's Camry or Corolla. My uncle drives a 2012 (i think) Tundra. Most others in my family have decent taste, driving Chevy's or GM's. One jackass drives a Dodge.

My best friend drives a 2015 GMC Sierra. Very nice truck, and the one I was looking at before deciding to buy used and stick with Toyota. Another friend is brain dead and loves his Fords. Fuck Ford. Lots of guys at work (and around town) seem to like Ram 1500's. Cheap like borscht and the local Dodge dealers will give financing to a corpse if they think they can make the payments work. Two coworkers drive Toyota, a 2000 Tundra and a 2013 Tacoma. I get along with them.

This is my dad's truck. He's had it over 30 years. It needs a new paint job, but it still runs strong. My dad has done all the work to it. I want it

I have am '06 double cab Tundra and a '00 Nissan Xterra. I've converted my fiancé from Ford to Toyota. She has a '12 Camry. My sister in law HAD a nice 3rd gen 4Runner but her douche husband convinced her to trade it for a 2wd Nissan Pathfinder. I just gave my nephew a '97 Avalon. His first car. Everyone else drives Dodge and Ford. They are constantly fixing them. I refuse to work on them.

My family has always had a Toyota or Lexus at one time. I've only ever owned Toyota.

My buddy and his girlfriend both have 4 Runners.

My other friend was a die hard Chevy guy. He now has 3 Fords. He also works on them constantly.

I just got back from being designated driver for a family member's birthday lunch. I drove his 2015 loaded Silverado home. What a turd that thing is. I'll stick with my, all 8 cylinders all the time, thank you very much.
One thing hasn't changed since I had my 2000 and 2002 Silverados; at 60mph when you mash the pedal it makes a lot of engine noise but certainly doesn't go fast.
