Couple things on the under seat storage. Being we develop accessories in the OE realm, any accessory added to a seat frame would have to be crash tested since your adding weight. Also the drawer would have to stay shut in a crash. That might be one for the aftermarket. The makers of the “club” have an under the seat storage drawer/vault that hooks to the seat frame with a cable. No way we could do something like that in my world. We’ve looked at the rear seat storage areas and there are options there.

Personally I’d like to see padded walls to reduce clunking and noise from stuff shifting, and a battery operated light that comes on for 30 seconds when the lid opens. Adds cost but would be nice upgrades since the inside is black and hard to see in.

so basically you're saying if i want one under the front seat I'm either SOL or have to figure it out on my own.

I wouldn't want only a cable holding it down.....i wanted it to bolt in with the seats bolts that hold it to the floor

Well I'm saying it's a safety concern in the OE's eyes and would need considerable testing for approval...testing =$$.....the aftermarket is not held to the same standards as we are so what I'm saying is that an under seat storage safe will most likely have to come from the aftermarket. I agree on the seat bolt mounting but it affects the seat structure and bolt torques and would need to have extensive testing for approval here. Not saying it couldn't be done but would require considerable financial commitment. Not sure there is a loud enough need yet,... at least we're not hearing it from dealers. I do like hearing ideas here from Tundra customers however. Thanks

Thanks....I'm sure dealers aren't asked for them honestly. I wouldn't be asking them for it....they rape you already in pricing of vehicles. :D I'll figure it out....thanks!

Personally, I'd be fine with a cable lock as long as I could strap it down enough that it wouldn't slide out from under the seat.

Again, the only thing these boxes can do is prevent a smash-and-grab. A sufficient cable will prevent that. Someone with a crow bar and a few minutes is going to get into ANY box I've seen.

Also, I'm not one of those people who says, "I won't drill any holes in my truck." That is a non-issue for me, I know how to prevent rust. And I know how to plug un-used holes.

So, if someone wants to build a locking box that uses a couple of security screws (or bolts) into the floor and/or a cable lock I'm there. BUT, a drawer that won't stay closed unless the key is turned is a non-starter for me because it is just too hard to use in that position (under the seat). If its designed so that someone can push a button (mechanical or electric) to open it and it latches when pushed closed and can be locked with a key when leaving the vehicle. I can see that as a usable drawer under the seat. Otherwise don't bother for me.

I still think my solenoid lock idea (post #52) would be best and pretty easy to do, but I'd be fine if the issues can be worked out.

Only a very small box will fit from what I see...toyotas weird shapes and misc plastic parts are in the way too much imo. These seats are too damn bulky.

The console safe, or the under-seat? We may have enough interest to put together another group purchase of the console vault-- assuming Sparks is willing. As for the under-seat locking storage... this thread has transitioned to gauging interest and letting any interested manufacturers know what we'd like to buy... and hoping someone will make it.

Hmmn, maybe I should edit the title...?

Are you talking about the console box? Because you can still buy them and get 5% off. The group buy discount wasn't a whole lot more than that anyway. If you need it badly its only going to be $15 or $20 more.

Alright. Thread title edited to reflect there is NOT currently an open group buy going for either safe. HOWEVER, anyone interested in a second group buy of an E&G Classics console vault for the SR5 after the holidays, you may chime in here to let the manufacturer and SparksParts know.

You may also chime in if you'd like to buy locking under-seat storage. If we can get enough interest going to entice a manufacturer to make one available, that'd be good. There's been some great ideas put forth already, and info from a manufacturer's rep that our best bet will be someone stepping forward with an after-market option, due to safety testing requirements. I think that's what we'd all prefer anyway....

I’ve talked to E&G about it and they will look into it. They sell in the aftermarket also. They’re metal fab guys and have been for 50 yrs. they build top quality replacement grills for Caddilac and many other OE’s. If anyone can build it they can. If I did it electric I’d put the switch on side of the seat in front of the seat adjust levers.

Questions for any of you that installed this console vault:
    1. Did you find a way to install that did not cause the bolts to protrude? I do like about the SR5 console, that washers and bolts were recessed, so the "floor" was "level" inside with the fabric liner installed.

    2. The front left corner of the vault isn't flush with the interior front of the console. It's the least supported part of the insert, so maybe it fell or something; it doesn't look bent though. Is this what y'all that reported "bent" edges were talking about?

Right now, these 2 things really bug me (my perfectionism is coming out). I guess I'll see if it still bothers me after a couple of weeks, but I haven't yet thought of fixes. I'm also bugged that the foam liner for the bottom doesn't cover the space. I know, I know, nit-picky; but the liner in the SR5 fit perfectly, so I expected the same of any replacement.

I'm thinking I'll maybe do cut-outs in the foam liner that came with the vault (pictured) where the bolts protrude. Then I could layer the original floor liner of the SR5 console (cut to fit the 2 sides of the vault) over the foam layer. The "floor" of the vault would still not be level, but the protruding bolts probably less noticeable. Anybody find a fix?

I did not receive any installation instructions inside the shipping box, so maybe I missed some obvious-to-everyone-else way to place the washers and bolts. If you know of a fix, please let me know what you did.

P.S. Like others here have indicated, the usefulness of this setup probably outweighs any alternative. Seems like a good product overall. But I figured I'd post up my observations, so @Oceanway99, who's been looking in here to see what we like and what we still want-- as well as anyone else considering buying a console safe-- will have some detailed info on this one, because it is still mainly available as a shipped item, and there's no easy way to check one out up close, before purchasing.

It was pretty easy to install, *unless* the instructions detail some way the bolts won't stick up. I can't envision any. An easy way to post instructions, if you're so motivated, would be to take a pic of each page, then upload those, in order, on one post.

At the bottom of each thread page is a blank area to prepare a new post. Once you've taken pics, select 'upload file', choose from your pics/ video library, in the order you want to post, then choose 'full size', preview to make sure it looks like you want, then 'reply' will post to thread. (I'm not trying to be an ass, being so detailed. I understand different forums work differently, and I'm not very tech savvy, so it didn't seem simple to me at first.)

I guess the benefit would be for other prospective buyers to see how straightforward it is.

Thanks for checking in to see feedback!

So I’ve been watching with considerable interest and thought a couple comments might be considered.
None of these problems exist with the locker down console vault. Recessed dimple for the bolt heads, bottom liner fits perfectly, packaging is so well done you could drop it (boxed) off your roof without damage and the fit in the truck is nearly water tight.
The big plus this console vault seems to have over the locker down is the 1/2 x 1/2 design with part looking and part not.
This is no issue for me because I’ve got a lot of stuff to keep secured.

    Agreed.

For me though, this half-locking, half-not design is optimum for my needs! Family can have access to stuff we all need to toss into the console (danged lack of other easy storage in these 3rd gens), but I can keep anything I want to away from young kids.

I promise I'm not busting on the manufacturer; helpful manufacturer's rep; or the dealer we bought it from-- BUT I don't want to miss this opportunity to offer a little R&D feedback while it's still early days. I get the idea (correct or not) that some of these concerns may be of interest to them.

I do note that our price point was less than retail for the Locker-Down. I understand we got a discounted price, which definitely was a plus. I figure sharing this info might either prompt additional fine-tuning of the fab and shipping, or keep the purchase price down so it stays competitive with Locker-Down.

Thanks for saying! I know this isn't helpful or of interest to everyone, but I appreciate others' detailed reviews and installation how-to's-- so I figure I'll commit to this one thing....

I sure don’t understand the front edge not being flush unless it’s bent down. Have not seen that at all.

    @SparksParts

I know this was a few years back but where can I find this type of console safe design for the 07-13 Tundra console? I'd love to only have a small lockable area for my firearm only when I am not permitted to carry it on me
