The best I got stock was 14.. so I figured 9-10 would be pretty close. I do know my speedo is off by at least 5-7mph though

I was getting about 15 before the mods and now it's about 11 but now I have to factor in the miles that are off on the gauge so it's at least 12mpg now

The other day I was at the gas station filling up when the Chevy owner filling up next to me asked "How is that thing on gas?"...

My reply with a smile "Horrible"

He looked confused. No other words were exchanged, I drove away. Haha.

The computer says I am averaging 13.9. And I drive it pretty easy (I find I drive it alot easier when the instant mileage graph is up).

I also keep the instant up. The "current" one would probably ruin my day. Lots of hills around here, haha.

I started at 15 mpg when I bought my truck, and now I'm up to 16. Couldn't be happier. The only other vehicle I could see myself owning is either a Taco or another 4Runner (wife drives a 16). My wife's 4Runner only gets 18 mpg average so for me the 2 mpg difference is irrelevant and the Tundra is still the greatest vehicle I have ever had.

Mixed suburbs and highway driving here. Haven't reset mpg indicator since I bought the truck. Reads 16.3 mpg. I'll take it.

Just for comparrison my father in law has a 2014 Chev High Country 1500 with the 6.2 and 4 cylinder cut off and direct injection. which he is always bragging about the mileage he gets. I have driven that truck quite a bit and known it averages about 17 to 18 with mostly highway driving. In the Tundra I have been getting about 14 so far with mostly mixed driving, but I like the tundra better. And I think my numbers will come up. So for 20 K more you could get 3 more Mpg's.

WTF. I go in for my first service and what did they do? My MPG went to shit. I thought the first fill up might have been a fluke. Second one confirms it. A tire rotation should not effect it that bad. They only have 5k on them.

Any one else run into this?

For the first 110-120000kms I was averaging 16.5-17 Mpg 50/50 City/highway. It never got better which was kinda weird cause my past trucks always seemed to do better around the 80k mark. I’m not complaining I was quite happy with the mileage and still am considering that it’s a 5.7l and the numbers that Toyota claims are real compared to everyone else’s. Also the performance of this truck is really second to none as far as stock trucks go. But for the last 35000kms I’ve been averaging closer to 15.5mpg, maybe heavier foot lately, lol!

Is the performance part true? Honest question. I love the power this thing has, but on paper all the other full sizes are as quick 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

It’s funny how everyone measures a trucks 0-60 as a trucks performance. This drivetrain that’s in the Tundra is going on 11 years and everyone is finally starting to catch up, kinda. What they really need to do is have the trucks do 0-60 in a solemn set up and measure the trucks roll. Years ago when they launched the Tundra I remember them doing this and the Toyota was the top dog. In my opinion it’s still the best. When I bought mine in 2014 it was my first 1/2 ton, every other truck I have had since 99 has been 2500, 3500srw, 3500drw and with the luck I’ve had with GMC I had to give my truck of choice a chance. I liked the exterior better as well as the interior but when I took it out for a drive it was like a wagon when I compared it to the Tundra. That was it, decision was made strictly on performance.

The test that I seen years ago was also the truck pulling a load in a quarter mileage well as braking loaded and unloaded. I can’t remember what exactly the tests were as it was a long time ago. But I have to say that this is my favourite truck to date. Now only if Toyota would come out with. 3/4 or 1 ton diesel.

I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again. Take any domestic and put a 4.30 on it, remove the stupid chin spoiler and raise it to the same level as our trucks and see the real world mileage they get. I’m willing to bet they are about the same.
Can Toyota do stuff like cylinder deactivation to save 1 or 2 mpg’s? Of course they can. Why don’t they? Look at the other truck forums and see the headaches they cause. Remember, Toyota as a company pretty much leads the industry with fuel efficient vehicles but the #1 selling point in their trucks is reliability. They know this as much as we do and refuse to put anything on their trucks that hasn’t been proven in other platforms. For some people who want the latest and greatest, that’s a problem. For others like me, it’s why I bought a Tundra over everything else.

Side note, I just got back from a 180 mile trip from the high desert to San Diego and got 18.9 mpg going 70 mph.

12.4 is the best I have ever done for MPG. But with a TRD SC and Bullydog Tune at 550hp, I didnt expect to do as well as I am. Buying a Tundra for good gas mileage is a lot like buying a Volkswagen beetle for Bugatti Veyron speed expectations.

I just made a trip from Austin to Fort Worth (340 miles round trip) and I averaged about 14mpg. But that was driving at 75-80 mph. On the way there, I was getting 16+ mpg until I hit the 35 split. At that point, it was uphill with very strong head winds. That dropped the mpg below 13.

The tundra cruises with little effort. I love driving this truck :)

My truck has around 1200 miles now and I am very pleased wih the fuel economy. The photo shows the tank average since refill and the number on the bottom is a 90 mile drive on the Interstate, cruise set at 70 mph.

Your truck weighs 5,400lbs and you have a 5.7L V-8, if you average 15mpg per tank, you are doing good! That's what mine is doing Lol :)

My truck has a little less then 1300 miles now (had 391 when I bought it) and I am on the second tank. I have yet to see to go it that low (15 mpg) and it will probably never unless I tow something. I am sure my driving style is different from yours hence the difference in mpg we get. On top of that your truck is lifted and has larger wheels/tires which kills you gas mileage.

I know that the mpg I get is not representative for all Tundra trucks as a whole but it is for me. All the trucks I have owned exceeded the Hwy MPG rating when I drove them, you just have to be smart about it. I just posted this so people can see that decent gas mileage is possible.

On my first tank of gas (around 300-400 miles) I am getting a little over 17 mpg (and thats with me using no cruise control and varrying the RPMs every few minutes to break the engine in). Excited to see what I get once I get past 1,000 miles. I was expecting to get a solid 15 so I am more than pleased.

I would park my truck if it would get that kind of gas mileage.

Different subject, how do the newer trucks ride and drive with a lift and tires you have? I don't want that kind of stuff but I am curious how/if things have changed. Back in the mid-80's I had a full size Chevy Blazer with a 4" Rancho lift, 2" body lift and 35s. That thing rode and drove like SH....t, back then I liked that kind of stuff. Today you could pay for the modification and I wouldn't want it.
