    OK,

To all the smart people in this forum, and non-smart like me~~~~

I have a 2017 Tundra SR5 CM 4X4, added the Bilstein 6112 at top setting so its pretty much leveled, brought the front up about 2.5"'s. I have the N-FAB steps and once busted my leg slipping and they seem a bit harder for my wife!

That being said, I'm an ancient 56 and wife's a young 50, I am going with AMP Research Power-Steps for the wife because she is 5'4 and I'm 5'10 and shrinking! Figured it may get easier as we age, lol

I can wait till black friday and get the best price, then have a local shop install for a fee, or try the install myself! I'm not a pro like all in here but I did install my Bilstein 6112/5160s', TRD Dual exhaust and NFAB's, I can try or avoid the hassle and have a shop do it that has installed many others! I know one shop will do knowing I bought them elsewhere and one will only do If I buy the steps and install from them!

    Now, it's between getting the

    AMP 36137-01A PNP

    https://www.amazon.com/AMP-Research...882917&sr=1-1&keywords=AMP+Research+76137-01A

    or 35137-01A non-pug n play!

    https://www.amazon.com/AMP-Research-75137-01A-PowerStep-Running/dp/B0041FVGEO

Black Friday I plan on ordering the front and rear painted bumper ends, TRD PRO grill and bulge and 2018 front LED lights and fog's, all from Roman!

I finally have the $ so I better get them now or I will spend it!

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I installed the non-plug n play version (plug-n-play was not available then) the weekend after I bought my 2016 Platinum for the same reasons (5-4, 5-10, 60 ish). It was my first mod on the Tundra. So, I get it! On my last truck I bought the AMP PowerSteps at a shop and they installed them for me because I got a great package deal and thought it was too complicated. Like you, I have done various mods without issue. I took my time and followed the instructions. Aside from taking all day to install, it was not hard - hardest part was finding the correct wires. There are some write-ups that even show the colored wires and locations (kick panels and one in dash as I recall). The plug-n-play will take away the issues with wiring. Got my steps from https://www.svcustoms.com which has great service, sales support and free overnight shipping (at least they did then). One thing for sure, I like the AMP PowerSteps a lot!

Thanks for the reply with great info,

I think I may DYI them and get the plug-n-play harness its like a $100 extra and if its less wiring the better, as for all day thing, I'm like you by going slow and being retired I have the all day every day advantage of not having to do anything,

this is the quote I got from Keith and Autoplicity

75137-01A is now $1187.20 shipped and the PnP 76137-01A are $1270.90

This^^^^ Plug and play was not available when I purchased mine. But it is not a hard install I have the double cab and they come long enough for the crew max so you have to cut them down in length. I took my time and did the install in 4 or 5 hours. Second https://www.svcustoms.com They were great to deal with and a really good price on them at the time.

    Thanks Brother

I think I may be froggy and do the DYI pop myself!

Just a question if I may,

What is the difference with non pnp vs pnp is it less wiring and any difference in cosmetics wise after installation!
I would have to lift the door sill and carpet either way, correct!

my understanding is pop is just a harness meaning less wiring and cutting?

    Thanks

That is my understanding also wiring should be easier but the rest is the same. Even the none plug and play are still made for the tundra as far as mounting goes. You can do the install its really not bad at all.

Thanks for the SVC heads up, I emailed them last night and got an email back this morning, he said $1099.99 shipped for standard and $1119.99 shipped for Plug and play so thats the best Ive found!

I did get a email back from a local speed shop here and he quoted, the plug n play ones for 1499.00 and 125.00 for the install but he said Amp is opposed to minimum advertise price so I'm not sure how some one is offering them that cheep.

So I can buy from SVC $1119 and DYI save $500 or have installed for $1625, do shops that install cover warranty better then if I DIY?

    Thanks

I installed the pnp version a year ago in 2' of snow. It was super easy, and I like the fact no factory wiring needed to be cut/spliced. Well worth the additional $100. FWIW, the entire install (with frequent breaks due to the snow/cold) only took ~4 hours.

PNP is a piece of cake! Mount the boards, mount the module under the hood, route the harnesses down to the motors, power and ground to the battery, run two wires inside for the OBD2 plug, plug her in and she's done!

Yeah, 2 shops here wanted $1500 for the steps and close to $200 for install!

Funny the shop guy basically said I don't know how you can get them for $1119.00 when I'm sure he could too!

So if I order from SVC for the pnp $1119 with free shipping then DYI, I'de save a good bit!

That's a great price. I need to look into these, would help my boys and my mother-in-law to get in and out.

Quick question, do I disconnect the red/+ on truck battery before doing anything, also you mean run the power and ground from the AMP harness to the battery and last, whats the OBD2 plug?

    Thanks

Hey Geno. Just watched a couple YouTube videos on installing these things. They just made it on my mod list for next summer. The videos should help you out with a lot of good info. The OBD2 plug is where you plug into the truck computer. Driver side under dash. Let us know how it goes. Def do DIY and save the $500.

Hi Geno! You don't have to disconnect the battery except to connect the positive and negative wires from the AMP harness. The OBD2 is the diagnostic plug under the dash near your hood release. There will be 2 wires, purple and purple with a grey trackr I think, that need to be routed inside the truck and connected to the corresponding wires on the plug that will plug into the OBD2.

Some tips for installing... 1) where the main harness goes thru the firewall there is a nipple on the rubber grommet outside and inside. Clip the tips off of the nipples, that' the easiest place to route your 2 wires from the engine bay to the inside of the cab. 2) mount you linkages and then mount the motors, otherwise its a bitch to tighten the linkages if you're working around the motors. 3) spray some white lithium grease on the gears before bolting the motors on. AMP doesn't lube them and they'll work much smoother with some lube. Lastly, once you have everything hooked up, open and close the doors a few times to cycle the boards and then tighten the bolts that hold the boards to the linkages, that will settle the linkages and prevent any binding. Easy peasy :)

Any time . I've never kept track, but if I had to guess, I've probably installed between 75 and 100 sets of AMP boards over the years so I've learned a few tricks. Their instructions are spot on but let me know if you run into any issues, I'm sure I can walk you through it.

I will be installing a some plug and play steps as well this spring. Definity nervous about install but excited to tackle it. I have a DC so cutting the rails is necessary, anyone who cut them did you use a sawzall? I do want to know those who have them in snowy cold areas have you had any troubles with them? These steps will be an awesome addition to the truck.

Hi Patrick! I use a chop saw with a fiber blade to cut them but you can definitely use a sawzall. The plastic end cap will cover your cut so you won't see it. Put some white lithium grease on the gears before you mount the motors and dielectric grease in the plugs. The only issue I've had in winter is that when they sand the roads, inevitably some pebbles get stuck in the joints of the linkages and those tiny little pebbles are enough to stop the linkages in their tracks. If you rinse the boards off every now and then that shouldn't be an issue. If you do get a stone caught in the just take a small screwdriver or pick and poke it out.
