We have discussed it here amongst ourselves, and have come to the decision to no longer offer custom painted parts. This will mostly affect the Pro grilles, front and rear bumpers, door handles and mirror caps on the Tundra. The Pro grilles, door handles, and mirror caps are still available in the colors that they come in from Toyota, but if you do not have one of those colors, you will need to take the parts to your local body shop to have them painted. I recommend order the Onyx black parts if you are wanting to have them painted.

Several different factors have led to our decision to no longer offer custom paint, but it generally boils down to the return over the headache factor.

Our parts department wasn't making one red cent on the paint. We didn't mark up the paint cost at all, and simply passed the cost along to the customer. That's great for our body shop, but not so great for me.

Then, our body shop started to receive a lot of work, so it started taking longer and longer to complete jobs. No big deal for them, but I have to explain that to everyone who places an order, and waiting on parts ordered through the internet is no fun for anyone.

Some of the stuff was a shade or two off, or even some were WAY off, of the color they were supposed to be. I made a post a while back about this, but some people aren't happy unless it is an EXACT match, and that's just not going to happen unless we have the truck.

UPS is a factor in this as well. As you guys know, they aren't the most gentle of people when it comes to handling your stuff. One grille gets broken, and now we have to get another one painted which is an even longer wait time when you guys have waited forever on one in the first place. Frustration levels rise, as they probably should.

There's more too, but those are the main issues.

All in all, I want to be able to provide parts to you guys, but this is too much of a risk/headache for basically no return. I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

Everything that has been ordered up until this point is still good to go, but no future orders will go through for custom painted parts. I have changed the items in the store to reflect this.

figured that. just making a general realization. i'm sure @Roman would rather talk about unicorns over returned custom painted parts anyway.

Unicorns and custom painted trucks. Even an old member makes an appearance. Done!

@Roman, Do the front bumper end caps come painted from the factory, or is that considered a custom paint order?

They do not. They are only available in the flat black textured material, similar to the black center section of most Tundra bumpers.

As @MotoTundra said, you’re still our #1 go to for parts. How much do you think a reputable paint shop should charge to paint front bumper end caps? Just a ballpark as I’m sure prices vary by region

They definitely do vary. We were charging $165 for a pair of bumpers, so that can kind of give you a base line. I have heard from others that they have paid upwards of $400 to have some bumpers painted.

$165 is a damned good price. Materials & Sundries aren't that far off by the time you factor in primer, base & Clear on top of mixing cups and so on....
