Has anyone done a diy, could be any vehicle. I've heard of people using hvac insulation. Wondering if there are any other alternatives to spending big bucks on the products designed for this.

I installed dynamat extreme on all 4 doors last weekend, used 14 sheets (56sq.ft.) for near 100% on both inner and outer door skins. I also installed a 1/4 sheet on the dynaliner 1/4" thick behind the speaker to help with resonance off the outer door skin from the speaker cone. Took me 12-14 hours or so to install it all. I had to quarter the sheets to fit thru the door opening. I disconnected all the wire clips and cut out for them and the door panel attachment points.

Here is the door from the factory.

Here is part way thru the install on this door

    Here is the complete door

Here is a photo of where I installed the dynaliner. There is a 9"x18" strip above and below the inner crossbar, plus I wrapped the cross bar with a 5" strip.

I've used rammat on a few. Would not use anything else.

Amazon - I bought the bulk packs for $150 or so a box. The MSRP is $280 or so. I found a study of 15-20 sound deadening products someone on an audio forum did over a year or two. For performance to weight, the dynamat was the best deal and it was the 2nd or 3rd best in his tests. The winner was way more expensive and was almost twice as thick. Some of the cheaper products are a tar based material which is not good for areas with high heat (texas).

I still have the floor to go. It made a big difference for the stock JBL speakers. There is noticably more base now. I cannot wait till I install my JL speakers and amps

I did my tundra last spring. Gutted the entire truck and used CLD tiles, Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV), Closed Cell Foam (CCF) and a little Butyl. Some pretty good info in the link below.

I did. You could save some money though just buying the materials separate on Amazon. I was going to go that route but Don (the owner I believe) was so helpful during the process I wanted to give him my business. He answered numerous emails with all kinds of stupid questions I had and even offered his number up for contact on the weekend I was doing the install if I needed any advice or help.

It really did help with the sounds quality of the stock HU in my truck. That and road noise was noticeably reduced. If you do it and have any questions just holler at me and I'll try and help.

Hopping on the dynamat train. Used in all my vehicles for audio or engine noise. It's a little more expensive but if you shop around it's not too bad. I absolutely love it.

    Nice work Newm.

The doors on the 3rd gen sound tinny and cheap if shut too hard. Did it help them sound a bit more solid when closing? I would imagine it made a big difference but want to be sure.

Yeah it makes a huge difference. Mine are dynomated on every surface. When those Focals start screaming there is zero rattle or noise from the doors. They sound solid when you close them. I remember the first time I shut them after the stereo was done.

100% huge difference in the feel of the door. It feels way more solid and heavyer feeling... in a good way. If you knock on the exterior of the door it sounds like a solid core door in a house instead of the empty can kinda sound.

Thanks. I like solid feeling doors. I made all the doors for my house and all the stiles and rails are at least 2" thick.

One more mod for the truck.
    Thanks

Those of y'all that used dynamic, or other similar products, did they actually make a noticeable difference?

Yes, both sound quality and cut down on road noise. I fully dynamatted my 2002 Tundra after installing some flowmaster mufflers. Driving for 30 minutes gave me headaches, so I lined the doors, floor, and back wall.

Newm, from the research I've done, it looks like you used the most effective method for reducing road noise. I would like to do the same very, very soon. Too bad the sounddeadenershowdown is offline. I was able to read some of their pages through the wayback machine (internet archive). I'll be getting materials online this week if anyone has any suggestions!

What are you guys using for a moisture barrier on the rear doors? Does the butyl backed panels provide enough over the holes? I was going to cut new plastic sheeting to recover mine? Replacements from Toyota are $12.50 each which is fine but its still just plastic sheeting glued on.

I imagine you could make your own out of 10 mil plastic if can find some scrap/small pieces and some butyl adhesive.

Well I cannot see it being a priority looking at costs and what else I can get for the cost. I don't want the smell in my truck I hear a lot of people complain about and others say they can smell something but not bad. On the fence but leaning towards a no

....ok there is no smell and you'd be looking at less than $500 in materials for overkill coverage but alright.
