Devin Patrick Kelley full name. Apparently killed by deputies 5 miles from the church. Kinda sucks because now we might not know why.

Yeah, but here in TX, churches are not gun free zones. at least not all of them. That would not have happened in my church. One of us would've taken him out. At least 8 of us carry on any given Sunday, including the pastor, and his pulpit is lined with kevlar. We have our plan, and strategic seating of members who carry. Small church, small town, but we've known it's coming, sooner or later.

Kelley was court martialed and dishonorably discharged from the Air Force in 2014.

My heart breaks for the victims and their friends and families. Just saw on the news the Pastor's 14 year old daughter was one of the ones killed... this senseless killing has got to stop...

If he were brown he'd be a terrorist, but since he's white he'll just be called unstable and in need of help.

    Either way, he's a POS.

It would be so nice if for just one tragedy, the media never showed a picture of the actor and never told his/her story, instead they only highlighted the victims and the heros.

It would be even better if we never have another tragedy....

This kind of goes along with my thinking on this. People ask why this stuff keeps happening. We are a copycat people. We tend to do what others that get a lot of attention do. In the past, these guys probably just kill themselves, and you don’t hear about it. Now, they see this stuff. Instead of just offing themselves, they decide to take a lot of personal with them. Try to get even with the world and make them feel hurt, punish the rest of us for the perceived damage the world has done them.

That’s why this stuff tends to run in spurts. Serial killers, school shootings, plane hijackings, etc. Once one person or group makes headlines by doing something that appeals to these guys, it’s pretty much a guarantee that others will follow suit shortly after. These days, all news is widespread instantly. That’s why the world seems more dangerous than it used to be. Thirty years ago, a lot of this stuff would have never been seen by most people, so it didn’t influence people with similar mindsets.

That’s the double edged sword of the availability of information we know now. It’s a wonderful thing for the most part, but there are times like this when it serves as inspiration for those with a tendency to do violence.

Yep, apparently the charge was assault (stupid move, IMHO, for a guy who not only assaulted his wife but fractured the skull of his child), and gave him a bad conduct discharge, instead of dishonorable. Neither of those are disqualifiers.

Agreed. Pretty sure folks were terrified. What's crazy is USA Today blamed it on the "lax" Texas CC laws. The terrorist , unstable, nutcase, asswipe, was denied a CC. Had nothing to do with it. I think Texas CC's used to cost $140 and was lowered to $40. For good reason. To make it more affordable for the average law abiding Joe/Janes to afford a 2nd Amendment right. Clearly this POS was a known wolf wacko.

I agree with you. We stopped televising suicides (and people standing on bridges, waiting to jump), and the number of instances was cut by, like, 80% or something. It's time we stop covering mass homicides.

I like allowing every law abiding citizen to carry. However, my ideas include regular backgrounds and re-qualification with a decent fee that'd pay for the background checks; processes not currently funded, like removal of guns from those now prohibited from ownership etc., and maybe funding to offset medical costs for victims of gun crimes. I don't like laws favoring rich over poor EXCEPT I think it's a good thing that people stepping into a gun battle have something on the line. I realize I think this way because I live in CA: when you know your assets are on the line, you excercise your rights... judiciously.
