I'm not much on making my own build threads, but I can never seem to find pictures of my previous vehicles. Maybe creating a build thread will keep me on my game this time. :notsure:

In November 2016, I purchased a TRD Double Cab Tacoma. My dream truck.....or so I thought. My wife was pregnant at the time with our 3rd boy, and I somehow convinced myself that 3 kids under the age of 5 would be manageable in the back. My 3rd was born in June, and I sold the Tacoma to buy a Tundra in July.

And now on to the truck, the only real reason you are reading this.

2017 Tundra CrewMax SR5 TSS Offroad 5.7 4x4 with blackout package and tech.

Although I am not a fan of 20" wheels, I was happy to get the BFG K02 tires from the dealer.

After driving a Tacoma for a little while and now driving the Tundra, the extra room and power of the 5.7 make up for the nimbleness of the Taco. Do I miss the tacoma, yes, enough to go back to one eventually? Not as a DD.

So, with only 350 miles on the ODO, I decided to take a trip to CO with some buddies who were elk hunting. I fabbed up some bars to go across the bed and mounted up my rtt. I dont have any better pictures of the mounting setup, but it consisted of some 3" 1/4" thick angle iron and 1 1/2" 1/8" thick square tubing. I used the nuts on the inside of the bed that are normally used for the track system to make it secure. Over 3000 miles and lots of offroad trails later, it never budged.

This was taken just north of Silverton on the trail up to Clear Lake.

Camp site Number 1. We had the entire are to ourselves. Coming from Louisiana, sleeping at close to 13000 feet was a little difficult the first night. I like to sleep on my stomach, so waking up short of breath wasnt much fun. But the views sure were worth it.
    IMG_0138.jpg

The next day we made our way through Silverton and the Alpine Loop. I cannot reccomend this route enough. Yes, its long. Yes, its bumpy. Yes, Driving a full size truck up Blackbear Pass will make you pucker. But, its worth it.

Obligatory Blackbear Pass photo op. Don't mind Charles, he's just looking for the bathroom.
    IMG_0147.jpg
    IMG_0150.jpg

Upon returning fro the trip I realized a couple of things.
    1. The Tundra is a terrific road trip vehicle.
    2. My steering was just as straight and tight after all the offroading
    3. I need to take these steps off before I rip them out the rockers

So, one of the first things I did after getting back was removing the rockers and installing some bilstein 5100s. Lifting the front end makes such a difference in the appearance of the truck.
    IMG_0331.jpg

Shortly after I purchased my Tundra, I posted my intro thread on here and also expressed my willingness to part with the TSS 20" wheels. @SlickRick2013Tundra hit me up and we began putting the pieces together to make a wheel swap for some Rock Warriors that he had.

Fast forward to last week, and the transformation is now complete. Thanks to a new friend in @SlickRick2013Tundra , we now both have what we want!

The wheels after getting them back home.

And all mounted up. Having some rub on the skid plate and slight rub on the mud guard. I'll take care of that tomorrow. Body mount clears fine, and that was my only real concern.

After driving with these tires on for a few hundred miles, I can't help but notice the resonance of the rear end when going over small bumps. I'm guessing this has to do with E rated tires. Has anyone else experienced this when going to a larger, stiffer tire? I had E rated tires on my Lexus and didn't notice it, but that was a 4-link rear. Maybe it has to do with leafs?

So that's how she sits today. I will get some better pictures up soon. Next up are some sort of step. I'm either thinking some amp research steps or some sliders that can double as steps.

next up is some kind of bed cover. I had a shell on my tacoma, but thinking of a softopper this go round.

I would love to fit an ARB bumper on the front. I'm patently waiting on mainline overland to release details on how they fit theirs.

Cool! I've been going back and forth on if i want a cover or not....but I'm leaning towards not getting one because i am thinking of getting a rack in the back....

Great pics. I wouldn't have attempted Black Bear pass in a Taco, and much less in a Tundra. You got bigger ones than me.

There was some definite "pucker" going on. Luckily we didnt run into much traffic. The Tundy might be a fat pig, but she sure can dance.

Thank you. They definitely have a stiffer ride, but hopefully will break in and soften up some.

No problem on the swap, glad that it all worked out.

    Nice looking truck!
I got almost identical truck in August (minus the Tss package).
Mine is a kid hauler too and throwing the car seat in the middle is the easiest thing ever, so much room.

Nice looking truck. I have a ‘16 SR5 TSS CM and was thinking about adding Bilstein 5100’s to the front as well. What setting do you have yours at in the picture?

Nice setup you got going on. Silverton area is nice. We have a place just south at Vallecito that we go about once a month. Haven't been to BlackBear Pass yet but will check it out.

I believe mine are set at the 3rd notch. I would like to get some longer shackles for the rear to give it a slight rake as it sits almost perfectly level now.

Looks great. I like the idea of a putting them at the 3rd notch on the front, but like you, would probably like to add something to the rear to keep that bit of rake.
