I’ve always been a diy guy learned everything from my dad. Here’s a few things I made outside. On the fireplace kind of copy from a kit that was sold from a paver company for like 8k I built whole thing for 800$ came out pretty good to me.

I built that over the course of 3 weekends last summer. Code says you couldn't use anchor bolts for hollow block, so I used the patio blocks. 4x4 uprights, 2x8 exterior frame (double joisted in the middle, married), 2x6 framing, 16' on center. Deck is 16x15'10" (crawspace for the house)

    IMG_5416.jpg IMG_8618.jpg

Did this back in late '05. 400 bucks and a very painful back later!!

Got tired of the red chirt and the mud and not being able to propagate grass seed no matter what I tried. Went to a sod farm and bought 1000 sq feet and installed it myself. 300 bucks for the sod, and 200 bucks for the rental of the trailer and the tiller. That was earlier this year, at the end of spring semester. I got the sod at just the right time. it rained afterwards really good and the weather stayed cool.

We have some really talented members on here . Unfortunately, I am not handy at all. Installed a barn door in my master bedroom. It's about as much as I can do. Don't even ask how many hours it took lol.

Here is what has been keeping me busy for the last few weeks. We needed a shed to get everything out of the garage so that the truck and wife's car don't spend another winter outside. We looked into buying a premade one and I found that what I wanted was going to be about 1/2 the cost to build, and would be built to a much higher quality. The shed is 12'x16' with 7' walls and about 14' at the peak. there is a 4 foot deep loft on both sides and is tall enough to stand up there. Its been tough to get much done with the days getting shorter, by the time I get home from work I only have about an hour and a half of daylight.

All said and done I spent about $3,200 and put about 5 full days of labor in by myself. I had a few times that the wife or a friend gave me a hand with things like the roof trusses and sheathing. But for the most part it was just me and my tools.

with the right tools and enough youtube videos you can build anything. (I'm not kidding this is the first complete structure I have built. I had some basic construction knowledge going in, but I got almost all of my info online.)

So here we go. 9 tons of 3/4 gravel to give me a 4" thick 16'x20' base.

    IMG_6942.jpg

The Tundra brings home 16 foot 6x6's for the skids and 12 foot 2x4's for the floor with the help of my bed extender.

    IMG_6951.jpg

The floor is built out of pressure treated 2x4's spaced 16 OC sitting on 16' 6x6's spaced 36 OC and then covered with 23/32" Advantech.

    IMG_6953.jpg

    IMG_6954.jpg

Framed up the walls with the rough openings for a 6ft door and 2 windows

    IMG_6959.jpg

Lofts and trusses went up. Trusses are 2x6 with 1/2in plywood gusset plates. I built a jig on the floor so that everything was identical.

    IMG_6969.jpg

Smartside and Zip sheathing for the walls and roof. (its starting to look like something!)

    IMG_6976.jpg

Of course a mini barn has to be red.

    IMG_6984.jpg

Windows go in and seams are taped.

    IMG_6998.jpg

    Doors are hung

    IMG_7004.jpg

and the last of the trim goes up. Trim is all PVC

    IMG_7008.jpg

And finally the shingles go on. Amazingly between the thickness of sheathing, trim, style of drip edge and 3/4" overhang I chose the roof was exactly 5 singles wide so there was zero waste from the shingles.

    IMG_7009.jpg

Just need to build the ramp this week to get the zero turn in and out and I will be ready for the snow to fly.

Also please don't judge my lawn by the area around the shed. We had just leveled the area out with a mini excavator. In the spring I will be re-seeding around it.

Most of major projects around this house are thankfully behind me, but we've done a lot. First up was our deck tear off, rebuild, and extension of the existing roof.

Before (the day of closing...we were 24 and maybe a little naive :) ):

Only thing on our new house is a double barn door. Never did it before, but YouTube came to the rescue. I think all together it cost $400 with hardware.

First major project right after we bought the house. Tri level home, first floor is half below grade. We knocked down to walls to make it an open floor plan, gutted back to the foundation, re framed/insulated/dry walled, build a gas fireplace insert, new flooring, trim, and now new windows (just did the windows this fall).

I built a dog run in my back yard. Tore out the grass (first load of anything in my new Tundra) mixed and poured the 80 bags of concrete to add an extension to my existing patio. Then assembled the dog run and added a doghouse.

I also did quite a bit to the interior of my house before we even moved in. I updated the main floor powder room by tearing out the short ugly vanity and pink back splash and replacing it with a pedestal sink. Also replaced the laminate and carpet in my main floor with white oak hardwood flooring and added real baseboards. I'll have to take an after picture of the living room.

Not handy like some people on here. Do basic stuff around the house. Helped a friend build a barn once. Trickiest part was the roof. Learnt a lot doing it. Envy some of the people’s skills here. :hattip:

guys I need help here. Trying to find a satin nickel georgian style door knob set for French doors. Indoor. The double doors that open to a bedroom. I can't find any. It doesn't have to be with a lock since it's for the kids playroom/bedroom.

Before and after garage finish and radiant floor/combi boiler install. For the record, I'm not a plumber. I'm the hydronic heating design and sales guy at a plumbing and heating wholesaler, but I did this install solo. Just bought the house a couple years ago, and the crawlspace furnace and electric water heater had to go...Plumbing isn't that bad! :benchpress: Last picture I added a hydronic unit heater suspended from the ceiling in the garage to keep it nice and warm on days like today.

A customers house I did in Williamsburg today. Plantation shutters and cornices in the sun room and shutters and arches in the living room. No before pics so it really doesn’t do it justice. A buddy of mine owns a cabinet shop and does a great job on the cornices for me.

I redid my deck last summer. Also used concrete stain on front stairs and put up a vinyl railing, made it look so much better.
I'll have to find some pics of other stuff I've done around my house. I've done every room over since I bought it. Basement is next hopefully.
