How did you mount it down? I could put it lengthwise and make a bracket to keep it above the vent tube.
Do you have a picture of how it looks?

I was looking at ebay for an hd900/5 but all the used ones looked a little beat up. Since this will be my forever truck, no point in skimping out. I ordered a brand spankin' new one. I also got the wiring harness to connect into the factory amp harness from tech12vots.

So much for a "slow build", its been 7 days and i've ordered everything i need. sonofa.

I purchased them on Amazon (they're still $155/pr right now). Be warned that its probably not an authorized retailer (there are only a couple authorized online retailers), so i'm not sure how a warranty claim would work.

Couple things came in the mail while I was away.

I gave the box a good once over, to see what made it a scratch and dent, sice it will never be seen by anyone once the install was done, I am not worried about cosmetic blemishes.

On the corner by the terminals there is a scuff on the carpet into the fiberglass. That's all I could find. All in all I'm happy with saving a couple hunskies and dealing with the scuff.

I'm amazed with how heavy this box is.

I almost forgot about these guys. They were the first thing I ordered for the build from Roman (had them for a while, just sitting in the box)

I need to do a test fit with the jl tweeters and see if they fit in the stock cradle. I'm hoping the just slide in and I can put a couple dots of hot glue to secure them

I gave the tweeters a test fit and the fit PERFECTLY in the factory cradle. I'll probably put a dab of hot glue to keep them in tight, but I bet they would he fine without it.

The test fit with the speaker adapters didn't go so well, the basket is bottoming out on the tabs. Can anyone confirm:
Adapters sit so that the spacer ring is away from the door
May need to snap off inside tabs

Lot's of great information. I've been wanting to replace my stereo stuff for a while now, but just never knew what to do and what all I'd need. I got a quote from Tech12, but after I couldn't afford his first $1,300 package, I never heard back from him on something cheaper. So I'm back to step 1, ha.

Those JL C2650 look nice. Would those work a lot better than the factory if that's all I replaced for now, the front and rear speakers? Speaking of, what did you do with the factory front speakers in the dash? Do you still use them or disconnect them?

I'll most likely install everything at once, so i'm not sure how the speakers will sound just being powered off the stock HU/amp. I dont see how they would not give a better sound than the stock ones.

I'll end up disconnecting the speakers in the dash, but i'll probably see how they sound working with all the new gear first.

That's probably what I should do. Just get a small 4 channel to run the speakers, which would probably be worlds better than the factory. Damn, now I want to start looking into all this again, ha.

I'm kinda thinking about ditching one pair of c2's (the front pair), and go with the c5's.

I was looking at the c2's when I was doing the test fit and they feel a little cheap. It's a stamped basket and the cone is a thin plastic, I started to wonder what the next step up is and how it compared with the c2's turn out it's night and day difference.
It would be an extra $250 if I return one of the sets of c2's

Great choices, everything I've read this is going to be the best you can get with keeping the factory head unit.

I have to say that the Fix86 is the best piece of kit I bought for my build. I just need to figure out where to mount the DRC200 now.

I think i'm going to mount the remote knob and light in the blank where the park assist button would be if i had it.

For those with the fix86, did you use the TuN software to tune the output or just leave it flat after the correction?

No real update as of now, i'm waiting on a large parts order (hd900/5, c5's, fix86, amp wiring) to be delivered. I still need to grab 3 short rca's from Amazon. Has anyone used those foam speaker rings that go between the speaker and door grill?

Can anyone confirm what size the rear speakers are? I thought i remember seeing that the front and rears were 6x9's, but looking at @TundraTex build log, the rear adapters he's using look different. Looking at crutchfield, they list the rears as 5.25". I've got the Premium Audio, non-jbl.
