Asking opinions on how hot can the interior of the bed of the truck can get if you have a bed cap or tonneau cover. Is the heat similar to the interior of the cab when parked in direct sunlight. Is there an interior heat difference between a cap and tonneau. I am looking at either a cap or a hard tonneau cover such as the diamondback.

I've done no testing at all on this question, but I've had a tonneau in the past and now have a cap. If I had to guess, I would say the bed was actually slightly cooler in direct sun. There's a little ventilation via cracks in the tailgate and I think the windshield is just a heat magnet for the cab. If I put up the windshield sun reflector, then the cab might win or be even.

It helps that all the glass is tinted on the cap.

If I had to guess (and I do), I would think the bed would be cooler than the cab. The bed doesn't have all that pesky insulation.

I’ve got a Diamondback cover and have had it for plenty of 100 degree days. I haven’t attempted any sort of measurement, but I haven’t noticed a heat difference as compared to the cab.
