It's not the gap on mine but how far it sticks out.

Went to the dealer on Friday for my 1year 10,000 mile service even though I only have 3000 miles on my truck. But at the same time they did my bumper recall I think they did a great job. Not really sure how long it took because I dropped off the night before.

Picked up my truck today and happy to report that they fixed it to my satisfaction. Didn't bother asking what they did to fix it. Oh well

Did you get under and take a look at the bumper brackets? I'm thinking they may not be resin based brackets any more.

I was told they are now steel brackets... but who knows if my dealer actually knows what they're talking about.

Just had mine done mast week. It took them 3hrs...done perfectly and the sensors all work. They are annoying though...whenever I pull into a drive-thru they start beeping. Does anyone know how to turn them off?

I'm due my 5K service, but I need to get the recall done as well. Some on here have stated their dealership had to order the parts against the VIN and others said their dealership had them in stock. Well, I only wanted one appt to get the service and recall done at the same time, so I stopped by the dealer to see if they needed to order the parts.

Here's my conversation with the service lady:
Me: "Do you keep the recall parts in stock, or do you have to order them against the VIN?"
Service: "We have to order them."
Me: "Cool, can you order the parts and when they arrive, schedule me for my 5K service and recall repair at the same time?"
Service Lady: "the technicians need to look at your truck first BEFORE ordering the parts"
Me: "Can they come look at my truck now then?"
Service Lady: "They'll only look at it in the bay, and we're booked right now. Let's schedule your 5K service appt and they can look at it then"
Me: "So basically, you're telling me they need to look at my truck before ordering the parts even though mother Toyota has already identified my truck as needing the recall and sent me notices in the mail? Is your technician expecting to find something different and trump Toyota directive?"
Service Lady: "No sir, but it's our policy."

So now, I have an appt for tomorrow morning to get my service done and for them to "look" at my truck so that they can order the recall parts, then I'll have to bring it back for another appt. What a joke!!

I really wish Toyota dealerships we more like Lexus dealerships...you get treated like a king over there and they do everything to keep you happy...at least at my local one anyway.

My dealership said there are two types of recall kits...they could determine which one I needed by the VIN. They did not need to look at my truck. They had one in stock.

A lot of people that work at dealerships are idiots.

Took mine in last week and they scratch the bumper while doing the recall.

So if anyone is going to get it done soon I would inspect before and after, I kinda dropped the ball on this one by just giving a quick glance at the bumper before I left, I inspected it when I got home and sure enough there was a scratch!

I've had my recall bumper kit on order for about 3 weeks, was trying to align the 5K service with the recall. After several calls to acquire status they told me the kit wouldn't be in till mid June?? When I called the first time, they wanted the VIN and need to know if had the sensors. Tired of waiting and dropped it off today for the 5K service and for them to fix the wind noise (Different thread). This my first Toyota and I'm not real pleased with the dealer or the initial quality.

Called my dealer this week to set up an appointment to have the recall done. The lady I spoke to asked for mt phone number and name and said they would call me when the parts arrive. Did not need the VIN or to see the truck. So now I wait...

So how do you know if your truck has a recall? Is there a Web site or something?

You can google Tundra bumper recall and input your vin. Or, just look under the truck at what is supporting the rear bumper end caps. If it's plastic, you need to have 'em replaced. This applies to 3rd gen only and only trucks with plastic, usually paint matched, bumper ends. If your end caps are chrome, no recall.

The dealer finally completed the bumper recall to my satisfaction after 3 trips to the dealer. Make sure you inspect before and after because lots of manual adjustment are required after they hang the new bumper. After the first attempt, the bumper was about 1.5 inches out on the divers side, 1/2 inch low, and 1/2 inch to far out from the truck on the drivers side.

No open recall on my VIN.

My sensors have an OEM button in the lower dash to turn them on and off...

Just a word of encouragement...it CAN be done right. Mine was installed and calibrated with no alignment or operational issues, no scratches, no weird gaps in the black plastic or between the bumper ends and body. So there must be some way to align it, 'cause mine is the same on both sides and aligns with right and left side under the tailgate. Keep after 'em 'til they get it right.

about the resin bracket recall....if you replace the bumper with an aftermarket steel bumper, do these brackets get replaced anyway? So if I'm planning on getting a new bumper I shouldn't be worried about having the recall done? Or are the existing brackets used even when replacing the bumper? I too have not received my second letter saying that it's ok to fix.

Rear bumper mounting brackets. There is a recall on some of the 2016 and 2017 because they will break.
