I've had my CM Platinum for 3 days now and absolutely love it... Except for one thing.. This thing is comfortable, has so much power and easy to drive. Yes, I'm coming off of an Acura MDX so the highway steering felt a little loose at first, but once I adjusted, its perfectly fine. Love the seats. And everyone who gets in it is amazed how nice it is and get lot of compliments... Almost like they've never been in a Tundra.

Now the but... I finally got around to setting up my audio with ipod music and XM presets, etc.. I was/am absolutely shocked at how bad the sound system is. All the other Toyotas I have been in (even the low end models) have decent sound and of course the Lexus do as well. I assumed the upper end Platinum would as well. I was so wrong. Bare in mind, Im an audio junkie. My home theater has an Integra prerocessor, Krell amps, and Dynaudio. So admittedly a little discerning. But I'm throwing that out the window as my 2014 Accord Sport 4 speaker system sounds better than this.

Who in their right mind puts a front sound stage with five metal sounding tweeters and two 6x9 speakers in the door that do nothing but produce muddy vibrating bass and calls this premium? I have to turn the bass down all the way just to keep it bearable for normal volumes and if i come across a song that I want to crank it up a bit, I can't as it just vibrates the doors all to hell.
I've made every possible adjustment to the fader control to see about moving the sound stage around with no success. Whoever tuned this thing did not use any audio gear and has no clue as to where to put the proper frequencies.

So my question, to those who can not accept this, what have you done to improve it and is there anyone out there that has done a complete swap of all the speakers, including the subwoofer, and new amplifiers, and keeping the head unit, which i understand is actually quite decent and produces good preamp signals. And most important, didn't not have to do any splicing, or very little..

Thanks and apologies for the negative rant..

    3. Replaced the factory amp with a JL amp (XD1000/5v2)
    4. Replaced the front door speakers with Alpine Type R 6.5" components (tweeter placed in factory dash location)
    5. Disconnected the factory center stage
    6. Replaced the rear door speakers with Alpine Type R 6.5"
    7. Disconnected the rear door tweeters
    8. Added two 10" JL subs behind the rear seat in a sealed box

Cmo1960, you are bot alone. The factory JBL system is aweful. Hard to believe they sell this as their premium sound system. You should start with a 5 channel amp. Need a processor to go with it. Get these installed by professionals, as the wiring is very complex. If you don't want to pay for that, go to Youtube (*********). Those guys are jackwagons, but they know their stuff. Don't buy their system. Overpriced and not high quality. You should add a good JL Audio amo to handle the power from the new amp. Then add 6.5" component speakers to front doors and 5.5" coaxial in back doors. Hope it goes well!

I am too SHOCKED, by the ridiculousness they call a premium system. I am in search of a good processor to undo the stupidity and give me a nice interface between the oem head and aftermarket amps. I believe Audison makes one too (Bit one/ten). I have a formal case opened with Toyota for this debacle. My system currently changes on a day to day basis... one day farting bass at vol 25-30, next day, barely any bass at Max vol and I can have a conversation without raising my voice (max vol on radio playing xm).

I put a JBL processor in to manage the new 5-channel amp and Kenwood sub, as well as new component speaker sets in front and back. Kept the head unit.

All the above is such great info; I, too, am shocked at the poor quality built in to my $50,000 truck ! I thought it might my ancient hearing system (the old ears!) but it's not. The system really is bad! Please keep posting your fixes for this. My budget isn't great, but I can and will certainly do something, just to get this beautiful truck to sound like my 2005 Taco; which I still own and may never part from. Thanks much.

I can’t agree with you more of the price we paid for these trucks you would expect the sound system to sound a lot better.

Not sure what model JL amps you’re using, but the best thing I did was install a Fix 86. Works awesome with the factory system.

    Nice.
It seems there will always be a need for aftermarket sound systems. JL is a great product too.

running boards , TRD sway bar and tundra 08 SR5 wheels. FRACmod, pop&lock and backup sensors installed .
I had the stock speakers replaced with JL front and rear with an alpine amp 45 watt per channel installed (behind the dash ) and it made a world of difference . I cant believe how much better it sounds , now looking at a small sub woofer to bring out the low end.
